Hi all, I don’t post here often but hope to start a discussion on Docetaxel, I am sure there have been other discussion though.  You can see from my profile that I am stage 4 and in my case Abiraterone has failed quite quickly (3 to 4 months).  PSA now 31.6 from a low of 4 I think.  So it never really had the impact on my that others might have seen.  I am now considered to be Castration resistant PC. In discussion with Oncoligist she has said the best option now it to try and halt the progression of cancer (quite widespread in bones) with 10 sessions of Docetaxel.  I am interested in other peoples experiences of this chemotherapy and happy to record my journey with it here of it might be helpful to others in the future.  I start at the on the 6th of Feb with bloods on the 2nd and pre Chemotherapy and call with Oncologist on the 3rd of Feb.

Any experience you have had are welcome here.  Hope you are all well.

Cheers

  • Hi All, the first treatment went according to plan, had the iv put in and had piriton, hydrocortisone and something for sickness via IV first then the Docetaxel.  Slight BP issue nearly caused a delay but managed to get it under control with breathing.  No initial reaction to the chemo which was great and the infusion ran to plan, about 90 minutes or so.  In and out in about 4 hours.  Staff were great. No adverse effects yet but obviously very early days.  I will keep things up to date here.

  • I'm really pleased every thing went as pland just take it easy, speak tomorrow.

  • Hi Morton

Its good the first went well, chemotherapy usually kicks in around the second day, so be prepared, hopefully a lot of the side effects will pass you by take care.

    stay safe

    Joe

  • Well that's me done for today speak tomorrow, good night sweet dreams

  • Thank you Ulls bed for me now lol

  • Hi Joe, yes I will keep an eye on how I’’m feeling, wiped out tonight, so glad to get a good sleep I think

  • Morton 68 that is brilliant.
my hubbys bone scan showed his bone mets have increased along with his pain bless him

we are still waiting to hear which Dr is correct and which protocol hubby will go through

One suggested he add a luteneising hormone to his 3monthly hormone injection but another said he would need chemo but if he wanted the luteneising hormone then he could have that for 3 months

Reading everyone’s chemo journey it seems that may be they way forward to help with his pain

Good luck with the rest of your chemotherapy and let’s us know how you get on

  • Hi Morton, pleased to hear it all went well. I hope you have had a good night and hope all goes as well with the next cycles.

  • Thank you mistymoon sorry to hear about your husbands Bone mets, the bone pain I have is the worst thing of all now.  I am hoping the Chemo will reduce the bone pain along with good pain relief. Thank you I will keep things up to date here and hopefully it will help people at different stages of the journey.

  • Thank you worriedwife I had a wonderful nights sleep, So many sedating meds so it would have been a worry if not.  Just going one day at a time and monitoring  my body and seeing what’s a side effect and what might just be anxiety etc.  Thank you for your good wishes.
