Hi all, second post from me but this time my husband is keen to hear from others in a similar situation.
briefly, he was diagnosed at the end of May with stage 4, Gleason 9, spread to pelvic wall and multiple lymph nodes. the oncologist said prognosis 18-24 months but if treatment works then maybe 4 years. My husband is finding this prognosis so difficult to comes to terms with. I have tried to reassure him that this may not be the case as I have read on here of lots in a similar situation that have surpassed this time.
We are still in complete shock and my husband still feels really angry as he had been back and forth to see the GP for a couple of years with, what we know now, many symptoms of prostate cancer and maybe if he hears about guys in a similar situation then it may help.
thank you all x
I was diagnosed with stage 4 incurable cancer (see my profile) 3 years and 3 months ago. I'm still on hormone injections and enzutomide tablets, my psa is still undectable 0.007, I still haven't received chemotherapy or radiotherapy and my oncologist said there's many treatments to add to them. I know everyone is different to the treatments but I'm hoping to be in the land of living for quite a few years. I wish all the best to everyone on this journey. Ivor.
Hi Ivor sounds to me like we were diagnosed about the same time, I was just over 3 years when hormones started to fail, put on plan B add striods to hormones, psa continue to rise, plan C no longer viable after the cancer had spread again, so plan D chemo, dont know is its working yet wont find out untill after i'v had 5 sesion, but if this chemo fails there are others to try.
Hi Hotflushiva.
Yes I was also diagnosed with Terminal Prostate Cancer last June 2023.
"Treatable not Currable"
Put on to HT install PSA 1000+ now 12mnts later 0.9 having next PSA check next month so hopefully not much change???
No chemo either as yet but at least we have got this in reserve!!
Yes there's lots of new meds coming down the line so hopefully we will both be around for some years yet???
I do wish you the best & I hope that you have many many more fruit full years to come!!!!!
Prostate Worrier.
Hi Ulls.
You where diagnosed 2yrs prior to me and I have been on HT now for a year but my PSA had started to climb at my last check up.
My next appointment is in the end of July so hopefully it doesn't rise any further else I will be looking at chemo!!!?
I do hope that you will find that the chemo is working for you and yes there's plenty more for you to try so hang in there my friend.
Prostate Worrier.
Hiya Ulls, it was you who helped me with my parking at the Maggies centre at the Freeman's, sorry to hear your psa is rising, I've got everything crossed that the chemo works, like you say my oncologist said there's more treatments in his back pocket, hopefully I might meet up with you at Maggies, stay strong marra.
Wow psa 1000, you've done very well, yes and the same goes to you.
completely agree with you, at first it’s all consuming, fear, sadness, anger, gathering as much info as possible and on and on. when I wrote this post I know we were wrecks but now we look to a future where we felt there wasn’t one, we try live life to the full, albeit different now, mainly due to weak bones and consequent fractures, tiredness etc, but we have learnt to live with the cancer. This site was, and still is, invaluable, just having a place to ask questions from others in the same or similar situation helps so much xx
When I first wrote this post we were lost, completely shocked and couldn’t see beyond incurable and any plans for our future seemed impossible but here we are 2 years on and living life to the full, albeit a little different. life isn’t perfect, we have ups and downs, it’s has taken a while for us to adjust but until the beast decides to take off again we will be doing our best to do what we had planned x
Hi Hotflushiva.
Many thanks, yes it was a big shock to hear the words "1000"
Going to "50" over a matter of weeks was "mental"
Then too "0.2"
Now "0.9"
Best of luck my friend!!!!!
Prostate Worrier.
Ulls, hope the Chemo works, Ivor, Ulls and Prostate Worrier, got my fingers crossed for you all.
