Still experiencing regular hot flushes & aching muscles & joints in right leg- hip; thigh; knee & ankle.Oncology nurse, during telephone call, suggested aching possibly due to drop in testosterone.

Anybody with similar please?

  • Hi Skeptic,

I finished my RT at the beginning of July 2022. Halfway through my treatment sessions my right knee started to give me problems. When I mentioned it to the radiographers they said that it may be worth mentioning it to my local GP. I did that and he sent me for an X-ray straight away. The results came back that I had the onset of arthritis and arranged for me to see a physiotherapist at the practice. I am now doing various exercises to help the movement.
At the start of my PC I had a pain in my right hip but the bone scan came back all clear.
Hot flushes are a thing that we have to manage whilst on HT, in fact I do believe that some on here are still getting them after they’ve finished HT. I think that HT does weaken the bones.

I do find that I am not as agile as I used to be before starting any treatment but if that’s the price I have to pay. My physiotherapist did recommend swimming as a form of exercise rather than walking, I will wait until the school holidays have finished before I book some sessions.

  • Hi Skeptic

I had my last Prostap injection in December 2021, and still get hot flushes, so what you are experiencing is par for the course.  The cancer nurse at my hospital advised me, they can last as long as you have been on Prostap - in my case 2 years. Oh joy!

Tyler has said something important. Prostap will weaken your bones. In fact, you should have been prescribed vitamin D + calcium tablets for, ( in my case),  a year after the last Prostap injection. Due to a clerical error, I wasn't put on them until 2 months ago.  Had a scan to confirm there was no damage - which there wasnt. If they haven't put you on them check, as it was only luck that I spotted the GP had missed the instruction from the hospital.

  • Hi Skeptic

Thank you for bringing this to the on line community.

After being diagnosed with locally advanced prostate cancer 01/09/2020 (treatable not curable)

and having gone through chemotherapy and radiotherapy.

I had my final Prostap hormone injection after two years in June.

So come the middle of September I guess that I am on my own.

Some of the responses to you have already answered a few of my questions, so thanks for that.

I keep asking myself what will happen to me and my body after I stop the injections.

I used to be strong but now fine it hard to lift anything heavy.

Full of aches and pains, hot flushes etc.

Thanks again I will continue to watch your post as it may answer some of the things I’d like to know

    kind regards

  • Hi Spud, I'm an incurable advanced matast prostate cancer and was informed I would be on some form of HT for life, currently on Enzalutamide tablets and decapeptyl injection 24 weekly, I'm 19 months in front diagnosis, everyone different including oncologists I suppose.

    All the best Ulls

  • Hi Ulls

    Thanks for that.

My oncologist did say if  the PSA does start to rise she would put me straight back on H/M injections

My cancer has spread to the pelvis lymph nodes

    Take good care of.ypurself

  • Mine similar but hips and right arm included

  • It has been over 4 years since I started having hormone injections for Prostate cancer, which finished Sept 2019. I had Chemo and Radiotherapy which finished on the 31 October 2019. I am still having hot night sweats at regular times, 3,5,and 7, the one at 3am is very srtong and lasts on average 50mins, I am usually just on the egde of sleep after this when the 5am one starts which is almost as strong. I still have the odd sweat during the day but they do not last long now. I have tried using medication but found my reaction to them too much to cope with. I have regular blood tests and my Testosterone is still almost nil, I have aches and pains in my joints and lack of get up and go which the oncology nurse says is due to the low levels of Testosterone. best wishes, Brian

  • , when did your hormone therapy run out (i.e. when would you have had the next injection if you hadn't stopped)?
