62 YO…very healthy/fit. Lot of living to do.
Grade group 2.
anyone consider ablation versus surgery or radiation?

nervous about the journey, side effects, etc

  • RWD,

Welcome to the group none of us would have picked.

I was diagnosed last year with Gleason (3+4)7,T2, Intermediate Risk.

Unsuitable for surgery I opted for the Hormones and 20 fractions of VMAT Radiation.   Bone scan came back clear.

I was in pieces this time last year, all this fear of the unknown.

There are a lot of knowledgeable men (and women) in this forum.  You will always find someone with nearly the same as you.

I know that it affects all of us differently.  You may escape the side effects or... not.

My main ones from the Radiation were extreme fatigue and my bladder was strangled by my Prostate.  Reducing my pee to a trickle.

Hormones, I started and still get Hot Flushes (mostly in bed), could cry for England without anything wrong.

I don't regret for a minute taking this option.

You should get more replies with more information

The Gleason 3+4 and the choice of treatment: surgery (ablation of the prostate) or RT means you are certainly dealing with a localised cancer inside the prostate. Did they confirm this?

In that case the 2 options will cure your cancer.

I'm also 62 y.o., fit, not other health issues. Cancer detected March 2018. I decided to follow the option of AS. Meaning PSA every 3 months, MRI every 6 months and 2 biopsies.

I can feel the pressure of the Medical team pushing for treatment and like you I've been exploring the 2 options surgery vs RT.

Well there is no answer Confused that fits all because every man is different and every prostate cancer is different. There are times I read an article or research and think I'll have the answer but no.

Personally I haven't had yet a thorough conversation with the medical team about treatments and immediate or later side effects. I hope it will help to make a choice.

There is a you tube video on Cancer better "what is better to cure prostate cancer, surgery or radiation?" It consolidates statistics on cases and cures. Very informative.

  • I'm 51, no symptoms, psa was 5ish, normal size prostate, Gleason 3+3, 12 out of 18 cores with cancer in Biospy.

I've been looking at Hifu privately as not offered to me by NHS but as my cancer isn't localised it is looking like whole gland hifu which is possible but while waiting for brca2 gene testing results I think I'm heading towards surgery. Strong family history of PC, father and younger brother, is impacting my decision. Although deemed low risk, with the family history and number of cores long term active surveillance is not being recommended. I'm also nervous and I'm sure that will increases as it gets closer but we're lucky compared to others on here.
