By some quirk of fate, whilst looking for something else, my GP did a PSA test and next thing i know im having an MRI and yesterday a biopsy. Im told from the consultant who did the biopsy he is 99% sure its cancer, he felt I had it for a long time due to the condition of it. Took lots of "scrapes" for want of a better term and started me yesterday on hormones to stop it.
Ive also been sent for a bone MRI which will take place in the next few days and he will meet with me around 4th with biopsy and scan results. One wild card, he was concerned he didn't get a full picture from the scrapes, may need to knock me out and do some more because my prostate is far back and hard to isolate or words to that effect. He did joke it felt like he was doing root canal work! Time will tell.
Meanwhile ive gone from healthy fit (or so I thought) to sick within 4 weeks, is there a forum for advice regarding loss of libido, the effects of the hormones, when that will kick in? I raised it with him but he just rushed over it implying its a small loss to treat the cancer. Only its not to me. Im devastated what i read.
Hi
Welcome and sorry about your news. You havnt given any of your stats, so its difficult to be precise ( could be because of the problems getting the samples from the prostate) However, it really is good news they have started you on HT, as this will stop the cancer growing.
The side effects can be as you fear - lack of libido, fatigue - but it might not be forever, depending on your full diagnosis.
Hang in there until you have all the details, then let us know.
Regards
Stuart
Malnik,
As said by Scampidoodle above, best to wait until you have the full picture on 4th.
You seem to have a very similar diagnosis to myself and back in Nov / Dec 21 I was in exactly the same boat as yourself in a worldwind of scans, blood tests, xrays and with more questions than answers.
Did they say what your PSA result was?
7 Months on, my disease is under control, PSA is trace, some aches and pains controlled by a couple of painkillers. Hot flushes? Yeah. Loss of Libido? yeah.
Alive? yeah and getting on with a normal-ish life, with my wife and 3 kids.
Try and stay positive in the meanwhile until you know the full picture, which hopefully shows a Stage 1 or 2 cancer, which is curable and manageable. Stages 3 and 4 are bit more complex but still manageable.
Malnik,
My loss of libido went quite well really, I didn't realise it but because of the effect of the Hormones and Radiation I couldn't have done anything anyway.
I don't know what I would have done if I still had the urges.
My last Decapeptyl injection was on Christmas Eve, it could be this time next year before my testosterone is working properly.
If you don't think about it... Easier said than done. I can't remember the last time I thought about it.
It would only bother me if I had the urges and couldn't do anything about them.
The Hormones make me waffle on and on and on...as you can see.
Best of luck with your diagnosis.
It was this day last year when I got my bone scan results. Started on Hormone tablets straight away, followed by 20 fractions of VMAT Radiation.

Thank you Stuart, after the whirl wind of that awful biopsy which lasted almost an hour, my head was spinning. In hindsight, my concern is minor in the scheme of things. And of course it isn't just me a lack of libido affects, I feel for my wife too. I'm sure well find an answer.
I don't have any figures yet, i'll update when i do.
Thanks for replying, it was a busy day that hurt!!! Loss of libido is a small price in the scheme of things, I keep telling myself. But you raise a good point, if you don't think about it, with no testosterone you don't want it! We said similar yesterday, which I'm clinging on to! I'll have to fond another hobby. I'll put my details up when i get them. Thanks again.
