Hi there, I am new to all this so please bear with me. I have been diagnosed with an enlarged prostate and was sent for a blood test. Not sure how I am feeling at the moment. Obviously I cannot pre-empt the blood test result but I just don’t know how to stop my mind thinking the worse and I am going crazy. Any advice would be appreciated

  • Virtually every man gets an enlarged prostate at some point . I had a very large prostate and a very small tumour - the two are not at all related . A large prostate causes a relatively high psa level in your blood ( without any cancer ) so don’t be surprised if the psa comes back rather high . Anyway having a large prostate certainly doesn’t mean you have a tumour . Bill

  • Thank you bill. Much appreciated as you have put my mind at ease

  • Hi Tonyrob59 don't over think things, not every enlarge prostate or above average PSA means you have cancer, just wait for the results, I have a friend who has had an enlarged prostate for 25 years.

    All the best Ulls

  • Hi Ulls

thanks for that. It’s the not knowing that’s bothering me. Anyway I am going to try and relax until I get my results:

    cheers

  • Try not to panic / worry … easier said than done I know. 4 years ago my husbands PSA level was 15 when the GP phoned we were on holiday and they suggested we come home.

He was fortunate enough to go to royal marsden rapid diagnostic place where they could only see a very large prostrate but still the worry was there. He had a turb procedure abd lots of bits biopsied everything removed negative. His number dropped because size of prostrate reduced theyve said prostrate will keep growing so in time number will increase and we will start again

  • Thanks you for the message. Much appreciated
