Hi Everyone,
I've been getting jabbed with Zoladex for the past 2 tears...painful as many will know, but very effective in keeping PSA down.
At my last injection the nurse suggested I switch to a Prostap injection which is easier to inject and less painful.
My Macmillan nurse tells me it does the same job and has the same effect but has anyone out there done this?
I'd appreciate your comments.
Cheers
JohnR1
John.I was diagnosed with prostate cancer in june 2019 and was put on Bicalutamide tablets for two months. After that I have been on Zoladex Injuctions every Twelve weeks.I have had no side efects until recently.Feeling more anxious and bloated first thing in the morning.
After a shower and strong tea it does weare off. Does thisr ring any bells with people. Best wishes to you all. Derek.
Hi Derek, good to hear you've had no side effects util recently and have them under control.
No weight gain? Has your waist size increased? Are you sleeping OK? Hot flushes? I'm getting all these but except for sleeplessness I'm dealing with them OK.
Just checked the side effects of Prostap, and sleeplessness is one. So I'm staying with Zoladex.
How's your PSA? And how's your abdomen standing up to the 3 monthly "stabbing". And the big question: are you managing your pee?
My urologist said I seem to be managing it, so discharged me. But he recommended a herbal med Saw Palmetto. And would you believe it seems to be calming the urgency to pee.
Best wishes
John
John.Thank you for replying.Sleeping is a slight problem.Does not help being home allday all though I do belong to a Gym and try and go twice a week.No weight gain hot flushes on and off but do not last long.
When first diagnosed my P.S.A was 112 and the last time I saw my surgeon it was 0.1. that was in November 2019.
So the treatment was working.Something I forgot to mention that the Cancer had spread locally, but not far, ans so far no further. My age by the way is 79.
Injections are no problem I feel the needle, but thats all. As for peeing it is very strong, but do have to get uo during the night about three times which disturbs my sleep.Sometimes during the day I can go about four times in five minutes,
other times I can go 3/4 hours without going.
I do not know what my P.S.A is now as I have not seen a doctor because of the Pandemic.
Derek.
Hi again Derek, your situation and age matches mine...I'm 78 and have locally advanced PC.
I'm told men like us live to a ripe old age just by dealing with it...
Keep well
John
PS Maybe another PSA test soon...?
Hi JohnR1, I have been on Prostap for just over a year, injection in the arm every 3 months. Injection is virtually painless, less than flu jab. My PSA has been static at 0.03 since the end of radiotherapy about 8 months ago. I believe I am one of the small percentage that has been tipped over into type 2 diabetes from the Prostap. I think this is quite rare, but I suddenly had horrendous blood readings HbA1c reading of 121, now down to 48. Glucose at 26, now down to 7. My CA19-9 reading was so high they were sure I had pancreatic cancer. After CT SCAN found I was clear of cancer. I have an appointment next week with cancer specialist to discuss continuation of the Prostap. If anyone has any opinion on my self diagnosis being wrong, please comment.
