OH is on HT and due to start R/T for 12 weeks in October but oncologist cancelled due it being to risky as OH had operation fir bowel cancer in Feb. Following consultations at UCH London and another hospital. The general consensus is that he should have HDR brachytherapy. His diagnoses was 4:4 Gleeson but now upgraded to 4:5. Anyone had HDR brachytherapy
Hi G
HDR brachytherapy is often given in conjunction with external beam Radiation.
Works better if stats are not too high. U don't say what PSA is
More info on this prostatecanceruk website.
Hopefully someone will post who has been thru HDR but don't think its used as much as LDR brachytherapy or external beam
Best wishes
Steve
Hi Galacl,
My husband has just had brachytherapy with boost.
He chose this treatment with 24 fractions of radiotherapy to follow.
The beauty of brachytherapy is the high dose to a pinpointed area. The treatment is delivered accurately and the radiotherapy mops up any external areas. He is also on hormone injections.
Good Luck.
