Hi

my dad has been diagnosed with advanced prostrate cancer with slight lymph node involvement and bone mets. He started firmagon injection in October and also takes enzaltutamide (4 tablets a day). He has started to suffer from swollen ankles and legs. Has anybody else on HT experienced the same side effects. We see the consultant next week but we get a lot of reassurance and help  from other peoples shared experiences so would appreciate any advice that can be offered.

  • Hi

I have suffered with the same symptoms, Oedema in both legs and feet, I went to see my GP about it and was prescribed Water Tablets,

I know what you are thinking ( who needs water tablets when we go to the loo to often ) but they seam to work after awhile.

My cancer specialist nurse arranged a trip to the DVT dept for a scan to rule out clots may be worth asking, but It is one of the side effects

of the treatment as uncomfortable as it is mine only lasted about 2 months

    Hope this helps

    Regards

    Chris

  • Me too. It's pretty common, even in men who haven't previously had any oedema issues.

Sometimes medication is needed, but plenty of exercise and feet up when not active can also help.

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.

  • I haven't yet but my exercise regime is three times a week 1km each on a strider and then a rower. Swimming afterwards which helps my spine. E bike cycling when the weather allows. All low impact but I think important when dealing with these very strong drugs.

    Hope that helps.
