What questions should I ask?

Just like most of you in this Forum I have recently gone through my first series of tests for Prostate Cancer - MRI, PETCT-PSMA and Biopsy (that was an experience!)

From what I have already been told it is pretty certain that there is cancer present, but I have a phone-call scheduled in 5 days when I will get all of the detailed results and move onto the next stage I guess.

This is all completely new to me so it would be very helpful for a bit of guidance about the questions that I should ask during the phone-call, what information should I ask for and should I be asking for any specific options?

  • Hi Jonny

I realise that u r waiting for results but have u had a PSA result as this would normally be first test thru the GP?

When they phone u , important things are obviously latest PSA, what the MRi report actually says and ask for a copy. Also Gleeson score from the biopsy, fingers crossed for  a 6 or 7 or less. see what they say about future treatment and then come back on here.

    best wishes

    Steve

  • Welcome!

At this stage, the old questions are still the best:

    "How bad is it?"

    "What are my options?"

With prostate cancer, unless it has already spread from the prostate, there are usually two very different approaches; surgery or radiotherapy ... then it starts to get complicated.

In most cases, you will be asked to make a decision, but you can only do that once you have heard all the options.

It's worth taking a look at  The PCa ToolKit

If I can't beat this, I'm going for the draw.

Meanwhile, my priority is to live while I have the option.

  • Hi Jonny,

I know that its past your phone call by three days.

Heinous was spot on re questions to ask.

There are a lot of nice and helpful people on here, so never be alone or afraid to ask advice as you've already done.

I found that the waiting was like forever.

I found out 1st Sept 2020 so still learning and asking for advice/help myself.

My thoughts are with you and yours, wishing you strength, and hope they don't keep you waiting to long.
