I've been living for 6 yrs with this disease, but now  I feel I am nearing the end of my journey. Can anyone tell me what to expect with chemotherapy , how long the treatments last and success rates in extending life expectancy.

My consultant was not very forthcoming when I asked her how much time did she expect me to have. Last scan showed it in my 9th rib and near lymph nodes in my abdomen.

Thank you

  • , I had chemotherapy as. Part of the stampede trial, it’s in my ribs, what treatment have you already had, has the hormone therapy stopped working?

no one knows how long we have. Just take things day by day, enjoy the good ones. I don’t know what treatment you’ve had but my guess is there’s still plenty of treatment options available

Not much info to go on so what I say is on guesswork of your condition.

Like you I've been living with this for several yrs with Mets also, I have had chemo in the past with very good results but as I'm sure you are aware everyone reacts differently to treatment.

I am now at the stage of going for 2nd round on docetaxel but oncol has decided like many to go for enzalutamide instead due to covid.

If this is your first time for chemo then you have done well, what treatment are you receiving atm? How is your psa? How are scan results compared to previous?

I had no side effects from chemo apart from hair loss on my body from neck down, temp went a little high towards end of 6th session but that was it really.  Yeah some days you may not feel at your best but had worse hangovers lol. A lot of guys I met during chemo had little if any side effects but like I said earlier we're all different.

As far as time goes, well that's the million dollar question we would all like to know but oncols are usually vague as this can never be exact.

    Keep the chin up

Young man hi, up till now I've had radical radiotherapy, currently on enzalutamide tablets ( 3 years on these) and prostat injections.

Initial psa was 94.7, with first treatment it went down to about 25, then with current meds got as low as 0.5. Now up at 20, it's found it's way to my 9th rib and near to lymph nodes in my abdomen. Current treatment is nearing its end of effectiveness, so oncologist is looking at chemotherapy as next pathway.

    1. Angus68, thanks for the kick up the backside.

It's spread to my 9th rib and is near lymph nodes in my abdomen, current treatment of enzalutamide is nearing the end of its effectiveness, on last 3 monthly course., hence question re chemo. Psa now at 20 which is low having seen others readings.

How long have you been  having chemo.

  • Hi

I have had Advanced PC for four and a half years, my scores were very high, anyway chemo 6 sessions followed by 20 radiotherapy sessions now hormone injections and now Xtandi.

let me just say that there’s a lot of years left if you go ahead with chemo, admiringly there are side effects but it keeps you with us for many years to come.

    stay safe

  • Hey Bompa

Had chemo back in 2014, they gave me 6 sessions which was once every three weeks. The idea of the 3 week cycle is week 1. Chemo runs ragged through the body wiping out everything basically,  work 2. Body levels off & things settle down, werk 3. Body recovers & rebuilds platelets all ready to start again.

It could be a rough ride but then again you could sail through & we could be having conversations like this next xmas.

Had new spread to a couple of lymph nodes near the abdomen & another spot on to the right hip hence my move onto enzo, like you we all get a bit apprehensive about new treatments but we have to stay positive.

    Stay strong Bompa
