2 has anyone changed hospitals ( there is a chemo unit closer to me if I get it )

  • Hi Annirke

Sorry to hear of your situation. I changed hospitals twice so yes, definitely possible.

I would say depends on how u get on with your current specialists where u r already, I would rather travel a bit further if I thought that I was getting the best possible care and advice.

    Best wishes

  • I changed hospitals to one much further away where I got better treatment that wasn't available at any of the 3 hospitals nearer me.  So yes you can change.  If I were you I would have a look at the Prostate Cancer UK leaflets in their Prostate Cancer Toolkit folder of leaflets which should give you an idea of questions to ask.  Go to Prostate Cancer UK website and you can either read the leaflets online, download them or ask for them to be posted to you - but that would probably take too long.

  • 1. what questions should I ask hospital

Ask for more detail on the spinal mets and whether they are proposing radiotherapy.

    2. has anyone changed hospitals ( there is a chemo unit closer to me if I get it )

Lymphatic spread is a big issue, but it all really depends - at the moment - on the spinal mets. You may need radiotherapy for them, at some stage, and so ideally you need the closest hospital with a radiotherapy department.

You don't say why you are considering a change; that's probably important.
