Newly Diagnosed and feeling lost

As you all know it is devastating to be given the news that you have cancer. I have Extra Ovarian Primary Peritoneal Cancer and it has been 6 WEEKS since diagnosis and I still have not been able to speak to my oncologist! My primary doc told me the cancer team is meeting (in another 10 days) to review my case?! Then what? Another 6 week wait for action?

I am in ever increasing pain, have abdominal and leg swelling and just feel that the cancer team doesn't see me as a priority.

I am just so scared that it will progress beyond hope of cure while they wait to do something.

  • Hi, i know it seem ages to wait but this is normal. Once they have had their meeting it should hopefully only take a week or two before you are called in to talk about your treatment plan. These meetings can take time to organise , they need to gather all the information and talk to the relevent people who need to be part of your treatment plan. There are oncology nurses, dr, surgeons and so on. It takes time to get it all sorted. Honestly we have all felt like this and want them to hurry up, but we also want them to get it right. Again its perfectly normal to think time is of the essence which it is, i also thought that and i am 4 years still here and mine is secondary cancer, and i have lived 20 years with cancer before it became secondary. Try to keep as well as you can, eat well and get a little exercise. It will get sorted. xx

  •  , thank you so much for your message.  I am trying my best to remain calm.  You are right - we want them to get it right so I should allow them the opportunity to review what they need in order to get it sorted.
