Facing up to things

Morning. Been diagnosed with primary Peritoneal and secondary in lung lining and had my 1st bout of chemo starting at Christmas 2023. After trying chemo tablets which gave me high BP I'm.back on my targeted drug for a number of sessions.

I'm a bit frightened about asking how long I can have it, how long will it prolong my life etc and wondered if anyone else is going through the same thing?

I understand this is a rare, and often discovered later, so can't seem to find someone to talk to about it

  • Hi

Welcome to our community though we are always glad when people find out family for help and support.

My wife has a very different form of cancer but her's is also rare so I totally get that. She was clear from the outset she did not want to know how long and I really struggled with that. Over 10 years later I appreciate how right she was because at best the doctors can only guess given data from years ago without the latest treatments.

Hopefully someone with a bit more experience in this area will be along soon. In the meantime if it would help you remember you are welcome to ring the helpline on 0808 808 0000, it is open 7 days a week from 8am to 8pm and the team on there are really friendly. If face to face might be more helpful to you we have a tool in your area that can localte support near you given a postcode. It can sometimes be worth using your hospital postcode too. If there is a Maggies near you many find them very helpful and certainly I find they very helpful.

    <<hugs>>
