Scared stiff

Hi

just wondered if I could get some positivity after reading all the horror stories on google, my GP’s pessimism and my consultants remarks about ‘there is no cure’

i feel lost and scared! I’m 51 with three amazing grown up sons who are devastated about their mums diagnosis (but very supportive). I am waiting for chemotherapy but there’s a 3-4 week wait and I keep filling up with acities making it unbearable to eat, sleep or move around. The consultant said he can drain me once more but that’s it! The last time they got 8 litres off! And I’m only tiny!

I have three rounds of chemotherapy then a CT scan and camera down (they found something on my stomach) then an operation and then three more rounds of chemotherapy.

im worried about the outcome and how it seems to be so difficult to treat. Every pain I get I’m worried it’s spreading ...? Is that normal? I’ve been told I’ll lose my hair so I’m going to donate it as it’s below my shoulders.

I'm not sure what else to say at the moment but I’m just in limbo land and very worried Worried

  • Hi and a very warm welcome to the online community

I'm sorry to see that you've recently been diagnosed with peritoneal cancer and it's perfectly normal to feel scared and worried. You might like to take a look at this information from Macmillan on coping with your emotions.

I didn't have the same type of cancer as you, so can't share any experiences with the type of treatment you'll be receiving, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. It looks like there are a lot of people in this group but sometimes people are unsure about replying,

One thing I would advise anyone who has had a cancer diagnosis to do and that is to stay away from Google. Unfortunately, we've all been on there looking for reassurance but all that happens is you read the worse case scenarios and scare yourself instead! It's best to stay on sites like this or Cancer Research UK if you want to find out more.

While you're waiting for replies to your post you could give the Macmillan Support Line a call on 0808 808 0000. It's free to call and the specialist nurses are available every day between 8am and 8pm.

    Sending a supportive ((hug))
