Hi folks hope everyone is ok. I have just finished my first cycle of chemo and have developed pretty bad facial acne and white heads any tips on how to manage this, it’s pretty widespread and sore - the hospital team did mention this as a side effect and gave me some cream but it literally burns when I put it on! I believe it’s the Panitumumab that I am having which causes the skin reaction. Any advice greatly appreciated - thank you
Hi JimBob99
I didn't get this side effect with chemo for a different type of cancer, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your diagnosis and treatment to date into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
This happened to my head between the first and second chemo. It itched and hurt. I too was told it was a side effect.
The only thing I could do was wait it out. It was gone by week 6. It’s hard to go out in public with rashes and acne. I didn't care if I was bald but I didn’t want to look like I had a contagious mange. Also it was impossible to cover.
I was told not to over clean your face or use hot water. Also I was to keep from using harsh face soaps, alcohol, acne medicine and things like that. I used those things and made it so much worse. My oncology nurse also said to be gentle to my skin. I like liquid baby soap and baby cream. If it burns I don’t use it.
I have primary peritoneal cancer stage 3C. I had 3 chemo rounds, surgery, 3 more chemo rounds and am on olaparib and Avistan. I am undergoing tests next week because of a probable relapse. Hello bald head again.
