I went to my mums consultant appointment with her yesterday and she has been diagnosed with Peritoneal Cancer, she will be starting 3 week cycles of chemo in 2 forms by drip and by tablet.
My mum has previously suffered from Oesophagus cancer and then Ovarian cancer which i have read ovarian cancer usually leads to Peritoneal cancer.
When sitting with the consultant yesterday it made me feel more positive, we had originally been told it was showing in her oesophagus again which actually isn't the case. He referred to the peritoneal cancer as the stomach lining a lot.
today i did the stupid thing and googled it, and my findings were hideous all that came up is how long can someone survive with this and i didnt find an answer i wanted.
I guess i would like to hear from someone who has this or whos family member is going through the chemo for this.
Hi
I'm sorry to read that your mum has been diagnosed with peritoneal cancer after having dealt with oesophagus and ovarian cancers in the past. It must be an extremely distressing time for you both.
I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet so thought I'd pop on. Replying to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list where it'll be more easily seen. It might also help you to get replies if you state what sort of chemotherapy your mum is having.
While you're waiting for replies you could type the name of the chemotherapy into the search bar at the top of the page to look for previous posts which mention it.
x
Hi Robbe, I read your profile and it gives me hope thank you for reaching out x
And staying positive is what you need IMO My cancer is primary peritoneal so whilst treated similarly it isn't the same. I googled when my CA125 was first found to be high I thought, well let's hope it's not PPC But it was. I have never asked "how long" but I've told my kids (both in their 30s) the outlook isn't great I tell myself I was fitter than many and new treatments are always becoming available so the old data whilst a guide shouldn't be your only predictor I try to think that the best way for me to cope with this must be to enjoy what I can now, without too much of an eye on what might be
Hi,
My husband has cancer in his peritoneal. His is classed as secondary cancer but the primary is unknown. He has undergone chemo treatment for about 4 months which is used for bowel cancer. His initial tablet treatment gave him a lot of problems so he was switched to getting all his medication through IV every 2 weeks.
Since having his 6 week break he was hospitalised with excruciating pain which turned out to be a blockage in his small intestine. He is now recovering from the operation to bypass the blockage. His oncologist told us today that a detailed report from the surgeon had been given to her.
At no point during diagnosis or since finding the tumours have his bloods or scans shown any signs of disease. This makes it hard for the oncologist to know if anything is doing any good. The information from the surgeon is all we have to go on & unfortunately he has a lot of tumors. She said she wouldn’t use the same drugs as last time but there are others we can try once he is fully recovered from the operation.
I’m sorry I don’t have a positive story to tell you. When my husband was first diagnosed they told us it was incurable but they could try treatment however they couldn’t tell us if the treatment would help because the type of cancer as well as the area make it a rare & they have little information on it.
I too googled it initially & didn’t get any answers I wanted.I have struggled to connect with anyone who is going through or supporting someone going through the same or similar things.
