Following my treatment for Pseudomyxoma peritoni  that included CRS and HIPEC where I was told the result was excellent, I have been unable to have a bowel movement in 15 days!!

I have been given endless movicol,  now changed to Laxido but still nothing!

Just a bit of mucus and brown jelly ( sorry)

I was eating fairly normally for the last 4 days but I've now been put back on a fluids only.

I have a low anastimosis between colon and rectum. The colon is total quiet apart from passing a little gas 5/6 times a day.

I've just been switched to Laxido that is still having no effect.

I feel totally bloated and panic stricken as to what will happen if I don't go soon.

The CT scan I had yesterday shows my bowel is totally full.

I've been told I cannot have an enema as it could damage the anastimosis.

Has anyone else experienced this?

What was the outcome?

I am at Basingstoke Peritoneal Malignancy Unit.

  • Sorry to alarm you but you have a blocked bowel. This is dangerous. You need to tell a Doctor immediately (or a nurse) as if you are still in hospital- they need to sort this out for you immediately… If you google ‘blocked bowel on the web you will find it is very common with our type of cancer. It has been a month since my MOAS and HIPEC but pre operative (2nd October) - there were a number of occasions where I thought I had a blocked bowel as I didn’t go for 5-6 days See a Doctor asap and explain you have not had a proper bowel movement for 15 days and they will help you.. Good luck and best wishes xx

  • I'm in hospital still!

    Docs are fully aware !

  • What did you receive to rectify your blocked bowel?

  • It wasn’t actually blocked but I was very badly constipated. I was given suppositorys and Laxido. After using Laxido for a number of days - that cleared my howel and I went back to normal. But 15 days is ages - what are the Drs there saying it is then?

  • Docs say I am constipated and to have patience.
