Dear Community - I'm trying to find out if anyone out there was diagnosed with Lichen Sclerosis (which can lead to penile cancer) I'm waiting for a second visit to a clinic in October, and although I obviously haven't had a cancer diagnosis - I'm not circumcised, am HIV+ and have idiopathic thrombocytopenia. Any advice out there? I'm feeling very stressed about this.
Thanks Langston
Hi
I noticed that you hadn't had any replies to your post yet so just replying to 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list.
While you're waiting for replies you could try, if you haven't already, using the search facility at the top of the page to see if they've been any previous discussion about lichen sclerosis.
We all understand how stressful it can be waiting for the results of tests, etc and you might find this article on how to ease worry when waiting for medical test results helpful to have a look through.
Do come back and let the group know how your appointment next month goes.
Hello mate,
I also have Lichen Sclerosus. It's non-cancerous as you mentioned, but in a very small number of cases 0-5% it can cause cancer after many (around 20) years. It can be managed with topical steroid cream. People with the condition also end up getting circumcised in some cases as it can cause phimosis (also because drying the glans out can stop it progressing). This usually totally cures it.
So yeah, nothing much to worry about. But speak with a specialist and monitor it yourself :)
