A month ago, I woke up with a painful errection. After inspecting my penis, I noticed that I had a hard pea sized mass either in my urethra or surrounding it. I called a few local urologists. None of them would see me unless I had a referral. I didn’t have a primary care doctor, so that was gonna have to come first. The first appointment available was 4 weeks later. I just had my first appointment with primary care doctor and got a referral to a urologist. The PC doc didn’t seem to follow what I was trying to explain to him as to abnormal growth in tge head of my penis. I still have to wait another 5 days before getting to see the urologist. To say I’m concerned would be a vast understatement. I’ve been seriously on edge and the only understanding I have of what is happening with my body come from chat gpt. I keep trying to tell myself not to get ahead of it. Easier said than done. The growth or nodule, whatever you call it, hasn’t gotten any bigger. I guess that’s positive. And I don’t seem to have any inflammation of the lymph nodes, yet. I really hope I’m freaking out over nothing but I have a bad feeling about all this.

  • Hi  and welcome to the community. I'm not from this group so not much help, but I noticed your post has slipped by without an answer. Hopefully by bumping your post, someone with experience will be along to help. One thing we all know is there is always a lot of waiting. The early days of uncertainty and not knowing can be the worst. Good to know you have an upcoming appointment. Once you know what you are dealing with, things become easier. Best wishes.

    Best wishes to All,   rily.

  • Thankyou for the kind words.

  • Hi JRG78

I have been fighting penile cancer for 2 1/2 years, and totally understand that you are concerned why waiting to see a consultant, I still hate waiting for results after having a scan, but can only say that now you are seeing someone,  if there is any concerns you should be dealt with in an appropriate time span. It took 2 weeks from seeing my local GP, to seeing the consultant and in having treatment 26 days after that. If you need anyone to talk to or ask questions there are a few of us on here that can tell you from our experiences, I do try and check on here every few days.

Hope you get the results you want when you see the consultant

  • Thanks for the note. I really appreciate having someone I can reach out to that is familiar Penile cancer. I hope your treatment is going well. My appointment is Thursday morning. I’m hoping to get some answers, but I realize there will likely be more waiting to come. it’s been a challenge to go about my daily responsibilities at work as I find my self being impatient with people in a way I typically wouldn’t be. Generally, I think of myself as a person that is generally controlled, emotionally. At least in my profession. I definitely don’t feel as if I have a whole lot of control over this situation. Well, I guess whatever will be, will be.

  • Hi

think I am experiencing roughly the same as you, a growth on the tip of the penis, mines a bit bigger than a pea, but that’s my fault for leaving it too long before seeing my GP.

All I can say is don’t worry too much, easy to say, but the NHS have been fantastic so far, it’s taken about a month for me to follow the same path, Gp, local Urology consult, then referral to St George’s, they have seen me and already scheduled in a operation for early next month.

I found it informative to read the posts in here, everybody’s story is slightly different, but it helps to understand and educate yourself, and help prepare you for whatever the outcome may be.

I also found a blog by a guy, it was quite serious for him, but he wrote about in a funny way, Google ‘Knob blog’ . Great blog, but also great reading about all the processes and procedures he went through.

Shout out if you have any questions, or just need to talk to someone else going through the same

  • Hi jc54

Totally agree with the nhs have been brilliant, I am about 2 years further into my fight, and doing good atm, unfortunaly like yourself, I think I left mine too late, also had an aggressive cancer aswell, and mine spread to lymph nodes, and then returned and after 3rd operation, was then discovered to have spread to my lungs, been on chemo and immunotherapy trial  since November 2023, which has to keep cancer under control. Also same here if you need anyone to talk to, who has and still is going through the same thing I will always try and get back to you. William
