Hi there, my husband aged 53 was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which was/is such a shock! Otherwise fit and healthy, non smoker and doesn’t really drink, he thankfully was able to have Crye whipple which was pretty grim ,it was found to be a 3cm aggressive tumour which had spread into 4 /25 lymph nodes and he is still recovering but has just started chemotherapy every 2 weeks for 6 months which on top of all the problems/complications from surgery we are finding really tough! He has had chronic diarrhoea since Sunday with little support from the emergency team,it takes us an hour to get through to them only to be told theres “no space” is this common? It’s heartbreaking as his wife to see him suffer like this Cry life is so cruel!

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your husband's diagnosis and treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

I hope that since you posted this you have managed to speak to your husband's treatment team and they have been able to prescribe something to help with the diarrhoea.

  • Hi my partner started treatment and like your husband has had daily diarrhoea.  He has been taking the maximum daily dose of loperamide and dioralyte after every bout.  This has not stopped it, but fewer episodes.

This cancer is very cruel and it is so hard to be supportive when you feel so distressed yourself.  I find my self crying out of the blue.  The people here are very supportive.  I hope he can get some relief and help from the hospital.  Don't forget to look after yourself.  I wish you the very best

  • So sorry to hear you guys are going through the same horrible times Cry

Jason is now on his 3rd cycle ,they’ve lowered the dose to 60% which is still grim but more manageable.I too find myself trying to hold everything together but bursting in to tears every 5 mins. This situation is a living nightmare but have to dig deep to get some positivity

I really hope your partner improves and you have love and support around you .

  • Hi , I think my partner will also have to decrease the dosage, he is struggling with the side effects. He starts his 3rd infusion next week and we are seeing the doctor a few days before, so I think he will ask for the a decrease in the chemotherapy.

The drug regimen is brutal and you can't do anything but be supportive, I also find myself crying especially when I see how thin he has become. You are right it's like living in a nightmare that you can't wake up from.

    best wishes to you both
