Newbie here and my mum was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in its earlier stages a few weeks ago after some tiring weeks in hospital from a GP referral. Now looking at chemo options (gemcap/folfirinox) and I think it’s finally hit me.
Any advice or tips regarding caring for someone going through chemo is very welcome - she’ll be starting within the few weeks it seems. it’s just us at home and i worry how hard it’ll be for me to juggle university with caring responsibilities, I just want to know what to expect
Also any advice from young carers would be great x
Hi lovenhope and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.
I’m Anne, one of the Community Champions here on the Online Community and, although I'm not a member of this group, I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.
To connect directly with others who are caring for someone with cancer, you might also like to join and post in the carers only group. If this is something that you'd like to do, just click on the link I've created and, once you've joined, you can start a new post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your mum's diagnosis and proposed treatment into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.
Good afternoon.
firstly I am sorry I haven’t come across your post sooner and hope you are doing as best as you can and In turn supporting your mum.
i am also at university - my mum has also got cancer but she has stage four so is very very poorly - I am also working full time and have three children.
so I do the best I can to support my mum and do what you can to support yours. Time is the essence it’s hard and it’s draining but trust me when I say it’s rewarding to just be there for your mum xxx
Study when you can and work around your mums treatment - that’s what I do - if it means I study at 1am so be it I do it x
