Pancreatic cancer.

Hello, I was advised to join this group to try and seek answers or just advice as to when to return to work after treatment. I was told by my gp I had pancreatic cancer on 3rd August 2023. Unfortunately it took 6 months 1 week and 1 day and 9 biopsies later to find tissue in which the cancer cells showed up to confirm this diagnosis. I received 7 cycles of fulfirinox from March until may then had surgery on 27th June (Whipples) followed by 5 more cycles of chemotherapy which finished last week. I’ve a scan upcoming at the end of November followed by a meeting with the oncologist the following week to discuss the results. I’ve found being at home very tough and miss the banter at work. Anyone else in this position and realistically when should I be aiming to return to work assuming the results come back positive. Regards, Mellee07

  • Hi

Welcome to our community, I hope you find it useful.

Totally understand how if feels to be away from work and that element of our social circle, indeed people sometimes note that we spend more time at work than with our family. If you feel there is something you could do, even if it were not your "normal" job then it may be worth asking. Your employer may well agree to an appointment with an occupational health adviser and that can be really worthwhile.

I feel for you on the biopsy front, my wife similarly had a lot of tests before they found some cancer cells for her though in her case is was Leiomyosarcoma. It almost felt like something of a relief in that we actually had something to face.

    Fingers crossed for your scan.
