Hi all, my mum has recently berm diagnosed with PC, which has spread to the liver. She also has severe mobility issues due to ataxia. I am finding it really hard to cope. Especially as my Dad(79)  is caring for her every need and is also struggling.  We have got a macmillan nurse coming for the first time this week -can they arrange for someone to help dad with getting her up & putting her to bed? She is really confused and cranky which i am struggling to cope with.  Any tips on how to cope?

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your mum has recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which has spread to her liver and that you and your dad are struggling to cope.

When the Macmillan nurse visits your mum this week, you can use the opportunity to tell her about how you're struggling looking after your mum and she will be able to tell you what support is available, which may include information about social care, benefits advice, and local support groups.

In the meantime, you might find it useful to join the family and friends group so that you connect directly with others to find out how they went about arranging care for a parent with cancer.

It would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'.
