Hi everyone just joined the group I am a 73 year old female

i was diagnosed last week with pancreatic cancer I am devastated how do you cope with something like that

I was sent home to decide if I want chemotherapy or surgery how can I possibly make that decision

I don’t know whick way to turn and feel like I’ve been given a death sentence

any advice would be appreciated

Lesley

  • Hi Lesley,

Sorry to hear your news. As devastating as it may sound, don't give up hope. The surgeon wouldn't have suggested surgery if it had badly spread or was inoperable, so I would say definitely go for it. You'll probably be advised to have chemo afterwards as well. Difficult times ahead but important to try and stay positive in the hope that it's been caught early.

  • Hi Lesley,

I am sorry to hear of your news.

I myself have not had this diagnoses but my husband has, at first I was just in a daze then it hit me like a brick. It took me a few months to come to terms with the news. For us it is a waiting game as the tumour has wrapped itself around two of the archeries making it impossible to have surgery unless the chemo shrinks it.

What information has your consultant given you? I.e have they caught it early enough to operate quickly?

have you been given information on the chemo and have you spoken to a clinical nurse specialist?

I believe they have given you this information to go away with as so much information is given at the diagnoses stage, it takes time doesn’t it to process.

Have you started creon yet? If you haven’t I would ask that you speak to your clinical nurse specialist quickly so you are able to digest and get the nutrients from the food you are eating.

This is a really great group and I’m sure will be able to help with any questions you have.

    se Di go you hugs
