My mum was told just an hour ago that they can't operate to remove the mass, it's connected itself to too many things. She still hasn't had a biopsy, they said they can take her to Leeds and do something with the nerves to stop some pain and then maybe have chemo. I'm a mess, what happened to a biopsy? I'm so scared I'm gonna lose her now x
Hi Natalie77
I'm sorry to read that you've recently found out that your mum's mass is inoperable. That must have been a very hard thing for you both to hear.
I don't know why a biopsy hasn't been done but this information from Macmillan about tests and diagnosis of pancreatic cancer does say that "Not everyone needs a biopsy. Your doctor will explain if it would be helpful in your situation." Could I suggest that you speak to your mum's CNS (cancer nurse specialist) as she should be able to explain why this hasn't been necessary in your mum's case.
You might also like to join the family and friends group which is a safe and supportive place to discuss your worries and emotions with others who have a loved one dealing with cancer. If this is something that you'd like to do clicking on the link I've created will take you straight there where you can join and post in the same way as you did here and join in with existing conversations by clicking on 'reply'.
When you feel up to it it would be great if you could pop something about your mum's diagnosis and treatment so far into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. You can amend it at any time and if you're not sure what to write you can take a look at mine by clicking on my username.

I'm so sorry to hear this. My husband didn't have a biopsy either, I think there are signs they can see on the scans that leave little doubt that they are looking at a cancer, and a biopsy - which would be unpleasant - would only delay any other treatment & possibly chemo. I hope they can stop her pain with the nerve block. That would save her having the very strong painkillers, which come with their own challenges.
