Hi All,

My Dad aged 75 had very recently been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer with liver mets, he also has renal cell carcinoma.

He started with back pain in November 2020 and we’ve been down various avenues until we got the above diagnosis mid April.

We are now awaiting biopsy results to find out what chemotherapy he can have. His biopsy was on the 27th April and I can’t help but feel we should have heard something from his nurse specialist at least or a referral to oncology. Am I being inpatient, is this normal to wait this long?

He currently has no appetite, has lost a considerable amount of weight and is very lethargic. I’m just hoping the hospital aren’t going to be too late with the results that they can no longer offer chemotherapy.

Any advice would be much appreciated ~ TIA

Hello. My Dad was also diagnosed with Pancreatic cancer with liver metastasis, in November last year (2020). I would have thought that the results from the biopsy would have come through by now. When we got the confirmation of the cancer the appointment with oncology was a few days after. Maybe it depends on the region and hospital. I am pretty sure that he will be offered chemotherapy either way as this is all they can propose for this cancer grade unfortunately, although I guess it does depend on the extent of the spread of the tumours. They should discuss all this with you very soon and I'm sorry you're getting this delay.

Many thanks for your reply and I’m so sorry you are having to go through this difficult time with your dad too, it’s just unbearable.

I managed to get hold of his specialist nurse today and she said the results are in but they only have their MDT meetings on a Thursday. So it is likely to be early next week before we meet up with an oncologist.

I’m not expecting miracles but Hopefully they will be able to make him a little bit more comfortable. Fingers crossed tone1

It really is unbearable and unfortunately so often diagnosed at stage 4 :( I wish your dad all the best and that he will get the best treatment and be as comfortable as possible.

My dad is currently on his 6th month of chemotherapy, where it has been quite rigorous with weekly treatment and a week off every 3 weeks. It's very intensive and has taken quite a toll but I think in his case they wanted to throw all they could at the cancer as they think he can tolerate the chemo, hes almost 60? I think it may depend on each individual.

He is due for his second set of CT/MRI scans this week and then a review with the oncologist (in person now, which I will attend too). I'm nervous of the outcome and don't want reality to 'kick in'

Not expecting miracles either, but let's keep hope x
