My partner was recently diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which has also spread to his liver. He starts chemo next week but seems to be deteriorating very quickly, he can hardly eat and he is so thin, he doesn’t think he will even make it to his chemo. I am 27 weeks pregnant and so scared he won’t be around to see our baby born. Has anybody been in this situation when they are so frail and weak but have managed the chemo and it’s has made them feel and look better? I know we are not going to get a miracle but I’m praying his life will be prolonged for a while and he will be able to live a little as at the moment he cannot get out of bed and feels and looks like he is dying. I am so scared, everything is happening so quickly
JessH I am so sorry that you are both going through this awful time when you should just be looking forward to the baby. Can the hospital prescribe liquid food/ protein drinks? If your husband is weak and in pain, the pain management practitioner should be able to help.My husband is pretty weak at the moment and was about to start chemo last week, but was admitted to hospital with a very high fever and infection. He has now been transferred from the general hospital to the specialist cancer hospital and I am feeling relieved. It is hard, but you have to push the cancer team to help you more.Do you have family, who can support you?You are both in our thoughts and prayers.
JesseH… My husband was having the same symptoms (without the full vomiting) last week in the general hospital,He could not eat because of pain and THEY weren’t facilitating any soft food.So I brought in baby food and soups .. small sips and tiny portions. He’s now eating ok, but small portions. Really lean on the cancer team, they are the experts.I know how scary it is and tbh, I have learnt to only trust the GI oncology team at the specialist hospital as we have had shocking experiences at generalist hospitals even the past week where a junior doctor wanted to put a DNR on his file…. I went politely ballistic! But he’s now in the care of the chief GI oncologist at the specialist cancer hospital.Where are you located? Please take care of yourself.Sending virtual hugs.
