Hello, new here.. already found some incredibly reassuring comments and posts so thank you.

loved one recently diagnosed last week with pancreatic cancer spread to the liver, has been declined chemo / transplant , but hasn’t been seen by an oncologist yet - is this normal?

my loved ones partner is struggling far more, and also been told there’s little in support for carers - don’t need financial support but emotional support as they are not sleeping eating and cannot get timeline of 3 months out of their head.

positive to read so many beating their prognosis as think this is so disabling as only symptoms were urinating lots and chest pain which has been eased by blood thinners.

doesn’t quite feel real, nor do we want it to be but wish to make the most of any time left and would love to think they have longer than told by the doc.

my questions are - carer support available - beating the prognosis - when to expect to see a specialist? Any other tips to help with symptoms as all teeatment has been refused :(

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm sorry to read that your loved one has been diagnosed with pancreatic cancer which has spread to their liver.

As I'm not a member of this forum I can't help with your questions, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' it back to the top of the discussion list again.

While you're waiting for replies, it would be great if you could put something about your loved one's diagnosis and proposed treatment  into your profile as it really helps others when replying to you and also when looking for someone on a similar pathway. It also means that you don't have to keep repeating yourself. To do this click on your username and then select 'Profile'. • Hi Charlotteterm, I am so sorry to hear about your loved one’s diagnosis. If the pancreatic cancer has metastasised then the Whipple surgery is not normally possible, neither is a liver transplant. We have also been down this path.A  McMillan nurse at our local hospital said the my partner’s cancer had spread to liver and lymph nodes AND this was NOT the case.I got my partner into the specialist cancer clinic the next day…I phoned the consultant’sPA! My partner did have a Whipple, but after a year, it came back on the liver. He’s just finished another round of chemotherapy, which can be debilitating.

Where is your nearest cancer specialist centre?I would demand a referral. There is always something that can be done, it may only be palliative care. However, to refuse treatment is callous and at least talking to a specialist you may get a better understanding of the reality. Then you can plan accordingly. Blessings and prayers for you and your Family.Sending you virtual hugs.

  • Hello, thank you so much for your reply! Are the cancer specialists NHS or private? Absolutely would love to get him to one of these as think it would just help everyone come to terms and make informed decisions! Thank you so much means a lot!

    area is Hampshire

  • Well …the best cancer hospital in the U.K. is deemed to be/apparently the Royal Marsden, Co located in Sutton, Surrey and Fulham Road,Chelsea. One can go privately, if one has insurance, but RMH is a NHS Trust.Your relative has a right to be referred. We are NHS patients, not private.I would also advise finding out whether there is a cancer support centre near where you live? However, I would question why your GP/local NHS trust is not giving support.Covid is no longer an excuse?

  • I am in exactly the same boat/situation as your friends.
