Hi I've just joined this group. Ive been diagnosed with ovarian cancer, I start Chemotherapy on Friday. I'm petrified. Any support would be greatly appreciated.
Hi , I’m so sorry you find yourself here. I was diagnosed in January 2024 with advanced ovarian cancer . I was terrified too. I’m still here and living a good life. If you can try to stay in the present, I found mindfulness app helped. If you’re searching on the internet stick to charities such as Ovacome or target ovarian cancer. There are so many treatments, there is hope. Chemotherapy is a lot to get your head around, but you will, you will find strength you never knew you had. Everyone is different, and the side effects of chemotherapy are manageable for most of us. Rest up when you can, listen to your body and keep hydrated. The chemotherapy nurses will look after you. Take care.
Hello,
You will find that it is not as bad as you are imagining and as SEM says, the chemo nurses are wonderful. I don't know how long your sessions will be, my first lot was 7 hours each time and I took a back cushion with me, some nice juices from the hospital shop on my way in, pot of chopped salad, and a well-charged phone. I had the cold cap (successful) which means no earphones but second time around listened to music through headphones. Just take it easy afterwards because you won't know how you feel the next day and it may change as you get more sessions under your belt.
This forum has been a wonderful resource for advice and support and just a feeling that you are not alone and there are others out there going through just what you are. Good luck my friend!
Hello. I was diagnosed with ovarian cancer at the end of last year. I had surgery then 6 rounds of chemo which ended at the end of May 2026
i was keeping a diary anyway, but in addition i started a side effects log - simple table, Cycle 1, day 1, day 2 and so on. I found it to be so helpful as time went on, I knew what to expect and what was normal for me. It was also useful at my mid point co saltation with my oncologist.
Best of luck. This is an excellent forum for support. I also joined Ovacome and they have some wonderful free zoom sessions on such varied topics as hypnosis, relaxation, yoga and crafting.
