I have been recently diagnosed with endometrial primary ovarian cancer and I bleed through a nodule in my tummy.
Starting radiotherapy on the 9th December to try and stop the bleeding followed by chemotherapy and surgery.
Feeling very scared despite a good support network of family and friends.
How can I carry on putting one foot in front of the other when you’re in such a scary situation?
Hello Adi
Welcome to the group.
I am sorry to hear that you have had a diagnosis of endometrial/ovarian cancer. I can understand that it is a scary time.
My cancer was also endometrial and I had surgery in 2022 and it was followed up with chemotherapy and then external radiotherapy- so similar to you but in a different order.
It is good that you do not have to wait too long before radiotherapy starts.
Even with a good support network around you it is normal to feel apprehensive about what lays ahead and I did wonder how on earth I would manage all the treatment. When it is all ahead of you it can feel overwhelming but if you break it down and focus on one step at a time- it can help things feel more under control.
For me the first session of each treatment felt the worst as it was facing the unknown and not knowing how the treatment may affect me and not knowing exactly what would happen each time. Once the first session was out of the way- it did feel easier.
With any treatment side effects can be a worry but I found that the 24 hour cancer helpline at my hospital was really good. I could call at anytime and get advice. Where I did have side effects there was often medication that could help.
Before my treatment began I made use of the time to get ready for things. I gave the house a good clean. stocked up on food etc. It also helped to keep up normal daily routines. Naturally there are times when it can feel very scary and at those times it can help to talk things through. We do have the Macmillan Support Line available from 8am-8pm everyday and you are welcome to give it a call if you think it would help.
Please do also ask if there is anything you need or want to know about on here. There are many ladies on the online community who will have gone through a similar diagnosis and treatment who will want to offer you support.
I wish you well for your treatment on the 9th and in the meantime we are here if you need us.
Jane
