Uncertainty and anxiety

Hello, everyone

I my cancer marker test is elevated and based on the ultrasound results, I have an undefined tumour with vascularity and fluid on my right ovary.  The scan already indicated that according to that, it falls in the malignant category.

I was suppose to see the consultant yesterday for the first time, but they cancelled…

I realise that every one of us is different, but do you think there is a chance that the tumour might be benign? Grasping at straw here, I know…

I am so scared. I am alone in the UK on a skilled workers visa. Zero support.

The possible diagnosis and treatment is heavy enough but I am stressed out of my mind about the financial implications of not working due to surgery/chemo…

Thank you for allowing me to vent.

  • Hi AngryOvary

i understand you being scared. Everyone who starts this journey is scared, however, you find that people who are further along the treatment  journey say that it was better than feared and survivable.

I cannot offer a hope that it could be benign (sorry!) but can tell you about treatment.

I had stage 3 ovarian cancer which required 3 cycles of chemo, followed by surgery and then 3 cycles of chemo. Because the cancer was stage 3 it had spread to other organs resulting in a hysterectomy and removal of much of my intestines so recovery from that was several weeks. The whole treatment period  lasted for 6 months, finishing 1 year ago. So far I am cancer free.
In terms  of you being able to work and earn money I understand your anxiety. If you have chemo the cycles are 21 days and for about 9 days you won’t feel well enough to work, the remaining days I lived life normally. Following my surgery I would have needed 2 or 3 weeks off work and couldn’t go to the gym for two months.  However my surgery was radical. Once you have had your treatment confirmation you will need to speak with your employer about sick leave. I note that you are employed under a skilled worker visa which suggests that you are with a reputable employer as opposed to casual labour so you should receive pay. The MacMillan site also has a section about financial concerns which could be worth reading

    good luck for the future
