Recurrence

Hi everyone. I had ovarian cancer last year and had a big op to remove my womb and ovaries and all the cancer he could find in all areas of my abdomen. It took me a long time to recover and then I had 5 rounds of chemo. My CA125 was down to 10 and I’ve very slowly recovered from all that although my energy levels are still not what they were before it all started. Now my CA125 has risen and my oncologist wants to do a scan to see what is going on, but basically she thinks the cancer is back. Has anyone any experience of second time round? Thanks

  • Hi, Sorry you are in this position. I have had two recurrences since my operation in 2015. It is not unusual to get a recurrence unfortunately. If you do have further treatment hopefully you will get a longer break. It is always a shock when you get a recurrence, but you got through the first lot of treatment and you will find the strength to get through another lot. Just take a day at a time. I wish you luck.

  • Thanks, that’s very encouraging to hear.

  • Hi

i am similar to you. Diagnosed in February last year, chemo and surgery. I’ve been on Olaparib and Bevacizumab infusions since September and had a falling ca125, got to 15 in December but has been rising since then. I’ve now had two scans but there is still nothing showing up tho I feel like I have symptoms that I had pre diagnosis. They are going to scan me again in three  months so feel like I’m just waiting for it to show but dread the thought of everything again. I was told they wouldn’t cure me in the beginning just was hoping for a better amount of time before it reoccurred !!! X

  • Thanks for this. It all seems so slow when you’re waiting doesn’t it, knowing it’s growing inside you but they can’t do anything about it. I suppose we just have to take one day at a time and enjoy what we can before treatment starts all over again. Yes, it would have been nice to have had longer before recurrence. What grade/stage was yours last year? Mine was stage 3 grade 3.

  • It’s awful and I agree you just want it all done asap. It was 51/2 weeks from me being diagnosed until I had chemo. I’m stage 4b. Definitely make the most of the time you have before your treatment starts x

  • Hi ladies I'm new here, first post for me. Diagnosed end of march just before my 50th birthday. Stage 3C. Just had second chemo last week with avastin. Such a shock isn't it, and recurrence seems to be quite common.. I'm waiting to see how the chemo works, will need surgery at some point but have scan booked for after the 3rd chemo.

I'm also reading some interesting books about Cancer. I'm changing my diet, don't know if anyone else has done this? I'm trying to help myself as much as I can. I talk to the other patients at chemoPrayut not met anyone else with OC yet. Stay strong and positive, it will keep us going! Treatments are getting so good PrayFingers crossed Sending love xx
