Hello. First time posting. Apologies for the lengthy post.

My mum died from ovarian cancer in 2005 when she was 50 years old. As such, I’ve always been on high alert when it comes to cancer because of mum.

My first scan was June last year. CA125 was 31. Scan showed a cyst - no concerns.

CA125 repeated January this year & raised to 39.

Another scan in March this year showed the cyst was hemorrhagic. Had another scan last week which showed my cyst is still present and still hemorrhagic.

My GP called me requesting my CA125 is repeated. Results came back last Friday and CA125 has now risen again to 87 (from 39 in January this year and 31 in June last year)

GP put in an urgent referral to gynaecology last Friday as he said significant increase in CA125 so it’s to see if the cyst cancerous.

My question is, what will happen at gynaecology? Is it another scan/something else?

Given mums history, I’m naturally concerned.

Has anyone had a hemorrhagic cyst turn out be cancerous with a CA125 of around 87?

I’m 36 years old.

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community which I hope you'll find is both an informative and supportive place to be.

I'm very sorry to read that your mum died from ovarian cancer so it's completely understandable why you'd be anxious having been referred to the gynaecology department

I can't help with explaining what to expect, as I haven't attended this type of clinic, but I noticed that your post hadn't had any replies yet. Responding to you will 'bump' your post back to the top of the discussion list.

If you still don't get any replies, you could give the nurses on the Macmillan Support Line a call so that they can talk you through what to expect. You can contact them on 0808 808 0000 every day of the week between 8am and 8pm.
