Hi everyone, I felt that I was coping with my diagnosis quite well but when several members of my family tested positive for the gene it overwhelmed me especially as one of them has been diagnosed with cancer as well.
Hi Primmy
Just when you are trying to cope with everything else blooming brca joins in - aghh. I was diagnosed with 3c/4 ovarian in feb20 and when thru chemo/surgery/parp inhibitor so a bit ahead of you. I had breast cancer in 2013 so when i was diagnosed with ovarian I had a brca test - mum died of bc in 1972 - my tumour went off to the lab in Liverpool and my blood went to genetics in London- my tumour came back negative, but my blood was positive for brca1! How can that be I asked? Nobody can answer this- not even google!
so i had genetic counselling, loads of family history forms , onlymy sister and 19 year old son could have it though thru my mum’s side . I have decided to have annual mammograms rather than double mastectomy, I have 3/4 monthly ct scans for my ovarian, so I feel at the moment I am covered . I would do the test though if you have family members with brca- remember “knowledge is power “ but only you can decide whats best for you
good luck with your treatments
love
Janet
