Hello,

I am really not sure whether i should be in the group but here i am so my story is that for the last two years i have been having urinary tract infections which has more or less left me incontinent and a sudden urge to go with awful pain at times, so the last time i asked the doctor for antibiotics he also suggested i have a Ultrasound which i did the lady doing the test said that she thought one of my ovaries were enlarged i cannot remember her exact words, but then she said i think you should have a CT scan also and asked me to stay and have one done that same afternoon.

My own doctor phoned me later that week and asked me to take a blood test the receptionist gave me an appointment for nine days later but the doctor said that was too long to wait and asked me to go in the following day and he did the blood test he said i would hear the following week, well you can imagine my surprise and concern when the doctor phoned me that same afternoon, he then said i would need to see a Gynaecologist and he was referring me.

Last week he phoned to tell me that whatever it was that was seen on the x rays  looked benign and like a fool i never asked exactly what it was they had seen as i was overjoyed just to hear the words benign, he then said that they would leave it for about three months which would be roundabout August and would probably have a Vaginal scan at that time.

My symptoms have been urinary problems, bloating off and on weight gain around my middle, ache in my left lower back it almost feels like it is a kidney ache and it also seems like it is coming from my hip and stiffness especially when i get up from sitting, i am ever so slightly aware of a vague sensation in the ovary area but nothing much.

I have made a phone appointment with the doctor for Thursday to get more clarification because this is not going away, and because both my Mother and Brother both died of Colorectal cancer i am now concerned that i may also have the cancer gene.

I am asking if anyone else may have had similar symptoms, this is on my mind all the time.

  • Hi Shirley, sorry to hear about all that you’ve been going through Frowning2.

Really hope your doctor was right and that whatever is going on in your body is something other than cancer, but you’re absolutely doing the right thing to follow up rather than wait three months for your next appointment.

As you’ll learn if you read some of the other posts on this site, the symptoms of OC can be very varied, and not always as extreme as you might expect, which makes it hard to compare and conclude anything for yourself.

I hope though that on Thursday you will get some answers,  and something to help with your symptoms - it’d be great to hear how you get on if you feel like posting here again.

    All the best,

    Bx

I spoke to the Doctor earlier this afternoon and he took his time to explain he said what the scan showed was that i have a small Fibroma which looked benign my CA125 level was at 11 so that is low, the bloating which i do get is probably gas as nothing showed up on the scan.

Now i will be seen again sometime in August.

I am relieved to hear this however my discomfort in that area and in my back is the same so i hope something can be done for me when i see the Gynaecologist as i would hate to think i will have to put up with this permanently, but it's one worry less now i know what it is.

  • Hi Shirley,

Brilliant news about your scan and blood results - must be such a relief for you Blush. Also, reassuring to know you’ll have the opportunity for a follow up check in August.

Not sure if it’d be the same for you, but I found that cutting down on gluten and dairy really helped me when I had bloating.

    Wishing you all the best,

    Bxx
