Hi. I was in agony a few weeks ago, I got took in to A&E and after much poking and prodding I was diagnosed with a cyst on my ovary., given strong painkillers and sent home. Three days later I had to return for scans, they found a "giant" 17cm×15cm mass/cyst on/around my right ovary.

I've had a CT scan, and plenty of blood tests... 3 weeks later and I've not heard anything.  I'm scared and just want this thing got out of me. I'm 50 years old, with 2 grown up sons and have been sterilised,  so from the fertility side of things, nothing is needed down there...

Is there anyone who has had a similar issue,  or any advice? Thank you...

  • Yes very recently.  Same size left ovary.  It grew rapidly and then I had a torsion (agony) and it began to leak (which eased the pain of the giant cyst but was not good as it turned out to be malignant and the leakage makes it stage 2). I had surgery on March 15th for a full hysterectomy, omentectomy and appendectomy.  I’m now having adjuvant chemotherapy.

you should have been give the number for the specialist nursing team when you were diagnosed.  If not chase them down.  You should be kept informed.  Your case should be reviewed by the multidisciplinary team (MDT) who meet weekly as soon as all your test results are available.  The nurses will know about this and attend. They should then be able to update you.  You may go straight to surgery or have chemo first.

hassle people.  Don’t wait politely.  Go back to A&E if the pain gets worse.  I recommend sleeping carefully on your back, possibly with a pillow at your right side.  You don’t want a torsion as this can lead to emergency surgery.

good luck.  Stay strong. I found the following ovarian cancer charities very helpful if you need them in addition to MacMillan - Target Ovarian Cancer and Ovacome. They have private Facenbook groups you can join.
