I have just been directed to this group. I was diagnosed yesterday with ovarian stage 3 cancer. Totally overwhelmed at the moment and both my husband and I are feeling very emotional. I am so afraid of chemo especially with all the scare stories you hear..

Hi Now you are getting technical! Macmillan have recently changed their website, but when I look at the group on my phone, all the previous threads are under your new thread. Can anyone else help here? I think that if you just do a search on Ovarian Cancer group, all the other threads should come up?
Hopefully someone will help! - we have community champions on here, they may know more than me!
xx

Hi there, I know exactly what you are going through, total bombshell for you and your family. I was diagnosed stage 4 back end of Feb and in the 3 weeks that followed until any oncology department made contact I had written myself off and got my affairs in order. Once I saw my oncologist I started to take each step as it came. Not going to lie its not easy but my goal was to get to a point I could have the surgery. So I had 5 rounds of chemo and then had debulking surgery 6 weeks ago and am back on the Chemo again. I could tell you loads more horrid things I have been through on my journey but I won't go on, I just want you to know you if you need to talk I'm here for you. Take care xx
I completed 6 rounds of chemo In june and will next week have altra radical surgery. Original told op not possible but now they can. Lots of organs will be removed and I will need a stoma. I am quite scared although the surgical team are nice. Leeseymarie how did you feel and how are things now xx

Hi Wizzie, I was diagnosed with Ovarian Cancer in September 2016, stage 3b. First do not be afraid, any problems you get with Chemotherapy the Oncology staff will have seen before and help you every step of the way. After 3 months of chemo I had de bulking surgery. I was glad to see the back of my ovaries and surrounding bits. I had another 3 months chemo and was declared clear in April 2017. I was 68 but it must be hard if someone has not completed their family.
In May 2019 I was unlucky to get a recurrence. It was caught very early on a routine scan. Back on the chemo again. In October it was reduced significantly but not completely gone. I then went on to Niraparib for a year. Luckily I had no new lesions and the Niraparib slowed down the growth. I have just chosen to go back on chemo to knock them back again. I start Monday.
I actually dont mind, the Oncology staff are so kind, you meet people with similar problems when you go for treatment. You just sit there waiting for your drugs to go in, chatting, reading, drinking and eating. When I finished I actually missed the staff and people I met. They all became friends. You are given medication to cope with any side effects when you leave. You get a 24hr phoneline to call if you have any worries.
I am new to this group , my name is Wendy. Do not be afraid of Chemo and let me know how it goes. The NHS will get you through, believe me. all the best,
Wendy.xxx
Hi Crazy craft, I'm feeling very well I was told I might need a stoma and they may have to take my spleen, they wouldn't know until they open me up but fortunately there was no need. They had to do some moping up as they described it around my liver so that's still a bit sore but I'm healing nicely. Chemo was harder this time round because I'm a little on the anaemic side so on iron suppliments and my protein level is down as well as magnesium levels so have to have powdered drink twice a day so cannot wait to get the next two rounds out the way. Just got an endoscopy and biopsy next month cos of what the scan showed on my food pipe but the fact chemo hasn't changed it at all a d I don't sefm to be having any problems in that area I'm hoping that's nothing. I was terrified about the operation but nearly 7 weeks on now can now tie my shoes up no problem. I must I used to Google everything trying to get some good news, big mistake! Your never going to find any good outcome stories, however I seem to be hearing about people who were only given a 30 percent chance and years later still going. Good luck girls we can do this!!
Thank you Wendy, saw my oncologist yesterday and got bombarded with so much information I felt drained. It looks like I will be starting chemo in a couple of weeks , I really hope it doesn't turn out too hard. You hear so many scare stories. Xx
