Hello, I went for a routine check up with my gynecologist and while there I mentioned a few issues I've been having ie severe bloating, peeing more & fatigue so he went ahead and done a transvaginal ultrasound it showed a mass on my left ovary that had solid components he has referred me for an MRI. I am so very worried about all this as we just lost my aunt to overian cancer in February. I walked out without asking any questions or how long the MRI referral would take.
I can't speak to my family about any of this as they would only worry more.
Hi Scarletwitch
Welcome to the Ovarian group.
I am sorry that you are having a worrying time and that a mass has been seen on one of your ovaries.
I would imagine that the MRI referral would be done quickly due to your symptoms, the scan and family history. With the testing they always try to rule out the most serious potential causes first- it does not necessarily mean they think it is cancer- there can be other causes of the symptoms -but they want to find out as soon as possible. Once they know what the mass is, then they can plan some treatment.
You could contact the gynaecologist again to ask what happens now, however I would imagine that any reports from your appointment would be sent electronically to your GP. Maybe worth contacting GP to see if anything has come through yet and if so what the plan is.
I understand why it would feel difficult to talk to your family. I am very sorry to hear about your aunt.
Perhaps give the Support Line a call and talk things through with one of the nurses. The number is below.

Thank you so much for replying. I'm just so worried as I done the worst thing and at a look through Google. I phoned the mri appointment line today and the lady said it hasn't been picked up by a photographer yet to ok the scan. I told her I was worried and she said its so busy it can take months for them to send appointments and she can't tell if it's been red flagged or urgent referral. I'm thinking of trying to go private as the stress is making me lose sleep.
Because of the mass that has been seen, the family history and other symptoms I would hope that it would be done urgently. I would contact GP and check whether it has been requested on the urgent or routine list. If it is on the routine list ask whether it can be done more urgently.
The appointment line is more about the making the actual appointments. You could try the gynaecologist secretary to check- there is likely to be an email address on your paperwork.

I would contact your GP and ask if you have been put on the NHS cancer pathway, this doesn’t mean you have cancer but it is a process within the NHS when they refer suspected cancer patients as high priority for tests and, treatment - generally the appointments should be no longer than 2 weeks waiting time.
Whatever cancer throws your way, we’re right there with you.
We’re here to provide physical, financial and emotional support.
