Possible reoccurrence

Hello,

My mum was diagnosed with grade 3c ovarian cancer last year, she had 6 rounds of carb/taxol then surgery, removing her ovaries, tubes, appendix, partial bowel and omentum. Her CA125 was 475 on diagnosis, then went up to 1236 just before chemo then after surgery down to 6. Second blood test was 12 then last week it has gone up to 317 my mum has been having pain under left and right rip and bloating, plus is quite windy in the evening. My mums oncologist said the ca125 is a good marker for her so it’s likely the cancer is back! Obviously we are all really worried and not sure what to expect. I don’t know if the ca125 being 317 is high for a reoccurrence? The oncologist has done more blood tests and my mum is having a scan on Sunday. We are all terrified. My anxiety is through the roof! My dad died just over a year ago of oesophagus cancer. I don’t have any siblings, I’m trying to be positive but it’s hard sometimes as I think of the worst. My mums oncologist said if the cancer is back which it is very likely then she will need to go on Carbo/Caelyx. I guess I’m looking for anyone in a similar situation or has been and has some positive news. Is 317 a high marker for a reoccurrence?

  • Hi . I've just dropped by and noticed you've not had an answer as yet, hopefully the ladies here will be along soon to offer support and hopefully some answers. I had a different type of cancer (Womb) but have a quarterly blood test for my CA125 markers as mine recurred. After 6 cycles of paclitaxel and carboplatin it's reduced to barely visible deposits and I feel fine.

Hopefully the scan your Mum had yesterday will bring the results quickly. Keep faith in your mum's Oncologist saying her CA125 is a good marker.

    Hugs, B xx

  • Dol2202, this is the first time I have visited this forum (as I am part of the ovacome one) but just came across your post. My mum was diagnosed last year (feb 2021) stage 3c, had 3 rounds of chemo, major debulk, another 3 rounds and we also got the news following the debulk that pathology had found she also had a rare appendix cancer going on at the same time.. still can’t believe it. I’m sorry to hear you are going through this too.. sending you love and positivity.

She has now been in targeted therapy for a year (as she is HRD gene positive), had a clear pelvic scan only 3 weeks ago, but around 2 weeks ago started with wind like pains at night time, and she was randomly sick one evening. We contacted The Christie who got her in, the CT showed some recurrence on the bowel. She is being called in to St Mary’s tomorrow to see the consultant who did her debulk. I completely share your worries and anxiety, I have been up most nights worrying. Trying to stay as positive as I can, I know it’s not going to be an easy ride again, but it does appear there are options. Whether that’s more surgery or chemo, or both, we will find out tomorrow. I’d be happy to let you know the outcome…. Here if you need to chat. I know exactly how this all feels. Laura xxx
