Better diagnosis than expected

Hi everyone,

I'm 41 years old and recently I came to this forum looking for positive stories. My story took a differenty twist to what I was expecting so wanted to share for anyone else out there.

A few weeks ago, large (10cms ) complicated cystic masses were found on both ovaries. I had a CA 125 of 110.

I currently live in the Caribbean and our healthcare isnt as good as I would like. So I headed to Miami. Due to admin problems, it took some time to get investigations arranged. I had bloods and CT. This confirmed the worrying situation. I was told to prepare for a long tough road.

Since then I had been told I was looking at a bowel resection and colostomy bag, full ovariohysterectomy and chemo for 6/7 months. There was evidence of spread in the surrounding tissues but my lymphnodes looked ok. I had cervical cancer 14 years ago and many lymph nodes removed so I wondered if this affected anything.

My whole world felt like it was collapsing. I was in touch with a cancer unit in the UK. I was planning in moving the life that I love back to the UK.

Finally my surgery was booked. The surgeon discussed on the table frozen biopsies for diagnosis and I would wake with the decision made on the table.

3 and a half hours of surgery. I wake. I am taken to my room where my best friend runs to me and says its not cancer.

It took me some time to understand whet was happening but I woke with the tumours removed. Partial ovaries both sides have been saved and the rest of me intact. Apparently I have whats called a LMP Low malignancy Potential tumour.

This  can increase CA 125 and look fairly nasty. I had cystic and solid masses.

The treatment tends to be just surgery. I haven't had time to process this all yet and I am waiting for the histology results to confirm what I was told so I am holding off celebrating just yet. I think I am in a slight state of shock while I recover from my surgery too.

Anyways, as I said, I am sharing my experience for others. I am adding the link (Hope thats alowed) to explain more for anyone interested  www.cancernetwork.com/.../update-low-malignant-potential-ovarian-tumors

Thanks for the support I had from my initial post.
