Hi all you wonderfully strong women!
So it's been a 6 week wait for me to have a laparotomy to remove a large mass 30x20cm or so and all the reproductive organs too. It's been a bumpy couple of weeks with my mind playing lots of tricks on me but finally the surgery is in sight.
I'm hopeful someone can give me some tips of what to take with me and what to expect over the coming weeks.
Tired mum of two energetic girls that aren't really old enough to understand what's going on xx
Hi there,
Must be such a big relief to finally have a date for your surgery - I remember it being a very scary time, but also a time of feeling very positive about some action being taken to stop the beast in its tracks !
Surgery is obviously very punishing on your body, so the better you can eat, sleep and exercise beforehand, the easier it will be to get mobile again and back home to your girls quickly. Don’t expect too much of yourself at first either - listen to what your body tells you and just take each day as it comes.
As far as what to take into hospital, I remember taking far too much because I envisaged myself up and dressed every day and reading books !! In reality though, the most useful things in my bag were my phone, with an extra long charging lead so I could leave it plugged in and still use it when I couldn’t get out of bed, some big knickers (I found full briefs 1 size up were perfect), and magazines / podcasts I could dip in and out of without needing to concentrate too much.
Wishing you all the best for next week and hoping to hear how you got on when you feel up to posting again,
love Bxx
wishing you all the very best you brave woman. I was misdiagnosed for over a year Told by GP repeatedly I probably had piles. Luckily on my 4th visit I saw a Locum who sent me for a colonoscopy which showed a walnut size stage 3 cancerous tumour near my rectum. During my time in hospital My phone and small counted embroidery squares distracted me.

Thanks B, seems likes it's taken forever to get here! Hope you are keeping well and have a plan in place now xx
it was difficult to process at the time but I thought I had. 11 years down the line I suffer with depression and anxiety and wonder if the emotions I experienced all that time ago have come back and I can't get a grip of them.

Wishing you all the best , I looked forward to my op as I just wanted it out of my body. I'm 7 weeks post op for stage 4 OC, I thought I had put on lockdown weight and had IBS , I'm still in shock.
Like the other ladies have said , an extra long mobile charger, Bridget Jones knickers 1 size bigger than you need , I bought 3 packs of 5 , I changed them twice a day . Lip balm also a very good idea . Sending you healing strength to you and your family.
Hi there and thanks for the message. This is exactly the situation I'm in, I was also of the mindset I'd eaten too many cakes in lockdown! Shock is the only way to describe it really.
Thanks for the tips, really appreciate it and hope you are well on the road to recovery xx
Thanks - yes, following recurrence after only 3 months it’s been determined that my cancer is platinum resistant so now back on chemo - Taxol only this time. Going to start Avastin too with second cycle in the hope of keeping this ba**ard thing contained !!
Just got to get my head around a new kind of fight this time - fighting to keep the beast from growing rather than kicking it out. Still fighting and determined to show it who’s boss though !!
All the best for your surgery next week - be thinking of you,
love Bxx
