I've come into hospital to have some fluid drained off my tummy and the specialist nurse has told that it looks like the mass isn't in my ovaries but in my bowel Rolling eyesRolling eyes

  • Hi ShazzE welcome to the forum and I am sorry to hear about what is happening  for you right now.

Thats some bombshell to land on you, did they just say it or have they sat you down and had a chat with you as to what that means or is this still to happen?

  • That's still to happen I had started to get my head around the ovarian cancer and now I feel like I'm back to square one Rolling eyes

  • Hi Shazz,

sorry to hear you’ve had some news today that’s shaken you a bit off course Frowning2

I know in some cases though, it’s hard to see exactly where the mass is as it can attach itself to other things in the pelvic area (bowel, uterus, tubes, etc). My own (stage 2b) tumour had attached to my bowel and when I had the initial internal ultrasound the nurse specialist couldn’t see my ovaries at all !

Hopefully though, when you get the full results of your CT scan and biopsy you will know for sure if what you have is a cancer and, if so, what type - do you have a date for that yet?

  • The CT scans have come back and my biopsy, the doctor I spoke was from gynae so he said it was either bowel or high up in my intestine, he scared the life out of me, cause he said he would be referring me to palliative care which I always thought was end of life care but thank goodness the specialist nurse came to see me and explained that it's about pain management if and when I need it, I am expecting a phonecall on Tuesday from the doctor who will be part of the team treating me but I feel like I'm in limbo land again atm

  • Hi Shazz,

Be thinking of you on Tuesday, and hope the plan for your treatment becomes clearer  then.

  • Thank you I'll let you know how I get on

  • Hi Shazz,

just wondering how you’re doing?.....hope the call on Tuesday has given you some idea on next steps and timelines?

    Take care.

  • Hi Barbara, I had a meeting with a surgeon yesterday who said that the cancer  is inoperable it's also a very rare cancer called Gist which can't be cured but it can be controlled with chemo in tablet form and hopefully that will also shrink the tumours and I can lead a "normal" "life I have an appointment next Wednesday with an oncologist in Velindre hospital to talk about next steps I'm feeling a bit better as at least I have a plan going forward

    Hope all OK with you

    Sharon x

  • Hi Sharon,

I’ve not heard of Gist cancer before, but really pleased to hear that it can be controlled, and maybe even shrunk, through a course of treatment, and that you’re feeling a bit better now you know what the plan is.

I’ve just finished the 5th of my 6 cycles of chemo. Biggest problem in recent weeks has been my blood count levels dropping  - seeing my oncologist next Thursday to discuss whether my body needs a break before starting cycle 6. I hope not really, as it just delays the end point, but obviously want to be safe too.

All the best for your appointment on Wednesday,

    Love Barbara x

  • Thank you Barbara hope all goes well for you too let me know how you get on x
