Hi everyone,
I’ve been following this group for a few weeks now trying to get my head around a few things and experiences from others. It’s the first time I’ve posted though.
I’m 44 with 2 daughters. After a routine smear test, the nurse couldn’t detect the threads for my coil so the GP sent me for a scan. At the scan a very large cyst was discovered on my right ovary. after more scans, an MRI and a ca125 test, I’m being admitted for a hysterectomy next Tuesday. The thought of surgery scares the hell out of me as I’m a bit of a control freak! They will test the cells while I’m under and if cancerous will then also remove the omemtum and lynph nodes. It all feels a bit like it’s happening to someone else at the moment. And I’m more focussed on the surgery part than what could possibly happen next
I was just wondering how people’s recovery had been after a hysterectomy and if any advice you can pass on. It’s so close to Christmas that I’m gutted for my kids in case I won’t be home in time. And they’re gutted they can’t visit me.
Sending good wishes to all of you x
Hi , I thought I would reply to you after reading your message. I was in hospital for 4 days including surgery day, had complete hysterectomy plus partial omentum, my Cervix and appendix. They will only let you go home after your bowels are working and you Pass Wind! I was in a lot
of pain for 2 weeks
until the staples came out, so make sure you
have someone to cook Christmas dinner cos I
found I couldn’t stand up for very long. It took me about 6 weeks to feel normal again. I wish
you all the best of luck, and a safe peaceful Christmas ,
Let us know how you get on,
love

Hi Janet,
thanks so much for your message. Sounds painful but the best thing to do is not very much! Will definitely be off cooking duties for a while :-)
hope you’re doing ok, and can have a nice Christmas xx

Hi!
Wishing you a good recovery, I had two laparotomys with a hysterectomy and they removed one of my ovaries and one of my tubes. My second recovery was harder than the first one. I stayed in the hospital for 5 days both times. Make sure you take it easy but it’s good to move and take some walks around the hospital and the house. Every day a bit more. I was in pain but the meds helped. I used to feel nauseous all the time but something that really helped me was to put cold wet towels in my chest and my neck!
hope all goes well, Yoli xx
Hi, thank you so much for the messages. Well I’m still here. They removed my appendix and omemtum as well as the hysterectomy. The biopsy came back as borderline but it was a large tumour so they are waiting full the full report to return before knowing if we need to do anything else.
I don’t know if I’ll be home today or tomorrow. But feeling in pain with trapped wind. It’s hard to know what is an acceptable level of normal Pain after an operation such as this to know if I need more pain relief or not.
hope you are all well and that your op went well also B xx
Hi, and thanks for asking. My op went well and today I moved from the HDU to a post-surgery ward. Also suffering badly with trapped wind and hoping to have my catheter and drain removed tomorrow so I can start to get mobile again.
love to you all,
Bxx
Hi B positive, just wanted to see how you were doing? Hope you are feeling a bit more like yourself. I definitely feel a little better each day, but try to remind myself not to let my body trick me. And do still feel pretty tired most days. The pain management isn’t too bad, but it’s v frustrating to feel so useless at the moment. trying to learn to just ‘test’. I hope you are resting well and feeling ok xx
Hi NJQ, nice to hear from you and glad you’re doing OK. I’m now up and mobile and finding the wind and bloating pain is subsiding a bit. Like you though, I’m finding the tiredness unbelievable....never imagined that a trip to the bathroom, wash and teeth brush and walk back could wipe me out for a whole morning - but keep trying to remember to be kind to myself and do a little more each day.
Fingers crossed I’ll be going home tomorrow,
Bx
