I’m 49 and very quickly over a few weeks went from being reasonably slim (thanks to Slimming World!) to looking like I’m 5 months pregnant.
Following an ultrasound and trans vaginal u/s the sonographer said it might be a cyst but couldn’t tell if it was a fibroid. Tumour markers were normal. So they referred me for a pelvic MRI scan. I went in for the results on Friday to be told there’s a 6cm lump which is definitely on the ovary and I can’t remember the exact words but it’s suspicious.
I’ve got to have an op to take both ovaries, tubes, womb and cervix. And Gertrude, which is what I’ve called the unwelcome guest.
The bloating is getting worse, the pain is getting worse, I’ve no appetite and I can’t eat much when I do,
I’ve a single parent with 3 kids, aged 20, 19 and 16, a dog and a lizard. A busy, noisy household! And when I came back from the hospital the kids laughingly said is it triplets or twins?! I just broke down.
I’m in shock to be honest.
Hi my name is Janet and am being treated for stage 3 ovarian cancer, had 6 chemos and my surgery is on Thursday this week. I didn't have much in the way of symptoms except a random paid in my tummy when I pushed in hard, so I was in shock when I was diagnosed back in February, OC was never on my radar having had breast cancer 7 years previously (not BRCA related).
Welcome to our group. Sorry you find yourself here, but there are lots of ladies on here going through it and we all support each other. I had a biopsy ,ct and mri before diagnosis, so when they do your surgery they will get a proper diagnosis ,by the sounds of it your doctor is e on your case and hopefully you will be treated soon. There are lots of options for treatment out there, It is very scary but try not to google, only look at this website , nhs or cancer research cos there is a lot of outdated stuff out there.
Re your kids laughing , my son and husband really laughed when I put my wig on, I think it was their way of coping, my husband calls it 'cousin it' and my son says I look like a lego mini figure in it! My hair is now growing back - grey and fluffy, so will be at the hairdressers asap I think!
Take care and keep us posted.
Love and virtual hugs

Hi Janet,
Thank you for your kind reply, it’s nice to meet you, despite our circumstances.
And thank you for the advice, my head is like a washing machine and my emotions are all over the place. I’m keeping busy, which helps. I’ve been told to self isolate from now on before the surgery.
Are you all ready for Thursday? I will be thinking of you.
Sending you a virtual, socially distancing hug from a rainy south coast.

Hi Chrissie,
Yes , I am on day 11 of shielding, I was allowed out today to go the local hospital for my covid swab. I am all ready for Thursday, but trying to sort out the house for my son and husband - writing loads of notes - put bins out, feed the cat etc! My son gets his GCSE results on Thursday when I will be at the hospital, I will feed my inner Kardashian and demand my phone when I regain consciousness! I have to go up to Ipswich hospital rather than my usual one in Chelmsford because that's where all the Gyne oncology surgeons are based, which is a pain cos it's 50 miles away, but hey hoe, I would go to Scotland to get rid of this intrusion!
Have a good Sunday and best wishes for your operation.
Take care

Hi Janet,
My daughter gets her GCSE results too on Thursday! Not that we’re expecting much due to the shambles surrounding the exams this year! Kardashian! Love it. Life goes on. I’m the same, kind of flapping around sorting stuff out, keeps me busy and out of my own head.
50 miles! But as you say, I’d go anywhere to get rid of this thing. I’ve got constant pain, varying in intensity, so I can’t wait for them to get rid of it.
Keep in touch,
Chrissie xxx
Just to let you know that following a full abdominal hysterectomy and bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy on Friday 25th September I today received the histology results and I am relieved to say that the ovarian mass was benign.
It came back as a benign fibrothecoma, which is rare it seems. All the symptoms pointed to ovarian cancer and it wasn’t clear on scans beforehand what the mass was, just that it was a solid tumour. So to say I’m relieved is an understatement xxx
Hi Chrissie,
Well that's the best news I have heard for a long time, so pleased for you. Go celebrate with a big bar of chocolate!
I would say go out but we are not allowed to do anything! Good luck to you I can imagine the relief you are feeling.
Take care and look after yourself.
Love
