Hi all,

I had a full hysterectomy 4 weeks ago where they found a 20cm cyst on right ovary, 5cm on left, cells in the omentum and 2 affected lymph nodes. I've been recovering well but this morning found a lump in my breast.

I've been to the dr who is going to do a 2 week referral. I have to say that this has been the biggest blow so far. I'm due to see the oncologist on 12th of June. As everyone says, the waiting is excruciating!

Has anyone else experienced this?

Thanks TT xxx

  • Hi  and a very warm welcome to the online community

I don't have the experience you're looking for but I noticed that your post had gone unanswered. It could be that no one in this group has had this experience or just that the right person hasn't read your post yet. By replying to you it will 'bump' it back to the top of the page where it'll hopefully be seen by someone who can help you further.

You don't say whether the referral is to a breast clinic or to see your oncologist. If you've been referred to the breast clinic you might like to join the breast cancer group, not because I think you have breast cancer, but because the ladies over there will be able to answer any questions you might have about what happens next.

Clicking on the link I've created will take you there if you want to join.

    Wishing all the best

  • Thanks for your reply. I really appreciate it.

I will try posting on the breast cancer group, my referral will be to the breast clinic. I'm hoping it comes through before my oncology appointment.

All of this is a bit daunting, I had been very pragmatic with the whole ovarian cancer bit, the thought of it spreading before I'd got the first hurdle jumped was scary but I'm back to feeling positive and am putting one foot in front of the other, just keep on moving forward with a smile.

Thank you for your help xxx

Hello I have had a similar experience. I had breast cancer in 1998 and was fine until 2017 when i had ovarian cancer . I had the operation and chemo. All finished in February last year and had a clear mammogram last may and then noticed a change in my breast shape this april and have just had a mastectomy on the 23rd May. I am BRACA 1 so have an increased risk of getting BC again .

    Are you BRACA 1 ?

It is a horrible time so I know how you feel. Try and stay strong.

  • Hi Karen,

I've not been tested yet but I am expecting it will be positive, which is a scary thing for my daughters and the granddaughter due in July. My mum had breast cancer 8years ago. She is good, healthy and strong which is lovely to know.

I'm sorry for your news, how are you feeling? People always ask that and I think "do you really want to know??? I've been constipated, have a pain up my noonie, it hurts when I cough and I want to eat my body weight in biscuits" but instead I say "I'm fine, a bit tired" I hasten to add these symptoms have passe.

It must feel so frustrating for you, I bet you just want to be able to live without the hospital appointments and everything that goes with it. What treatment will you need after? Or is the surgery all you need?

I go to the breast clinic on the 12th and that's also the day I meet my oncologist for the ovarian cancer to discuss treatment so hopefully I'll have more info then. I just didn't expect to be dealing with both these issues at the same time, but I suppose none of it is expected.

I hope you recover well and manage to stay positive.

Thank you for your reply, I had the mastectomy on the 23rd May , the breast cancer is triple negative so I'll have to have chemo as it won't respond to hormone treatment such as herceptin . I don't know if I'll have to have radiotherapy as I haven't seen the oncologist yet . My surgeon said I could have a lumpectomy but I decided to have the breast removed to limit a recurrence . I would like the other one off too but the surgeon was reluctant to do both at once.

I have three sons and one grandson but my brother who also has the gene has two daughters and a granddaughter so worrying time for them. there was a 50% chance that one of us would have the gene and both of us have it!

I am going through the stage of "why me" ? but I'm trying to stay positive . Let me know how you get on.

  • Bless you, I completely get the "Why me?" Keeping positive is easy when you put the face on for family and friends but when you're on your own, it can be harder.

I never thought about the mastectomy being done one side at a time, I assumed they did it all as one. If needed I too would opt for a mastectomy in the hopes of kicking it down for good. Waiting for the next step to be laid out is hard, I wish the appointments came round quicker. I hope you recover quickly and I'm here if you need a friend.

    Keep in touch. TT xxx
