Hi,
I’m new to this and thought this could be helpful. We recently found out my mum has ovarian cancer. I’m 21 and my mum is my best friend. I am so scared and am trying to be by her side as much as possible. Every single day I’m trying to see the good but I am really struggling and finding right now really hard. I’m not really sure what the point in this post was, but if anybody ever wants a chat or anything I’m here. X
Hi, I'm probably not going to be of any help but I felt a call to respond as I have cervical cancer and have a 24 year old daughter who calls me her best friend.
She is also mine (as much as she can be as she'll always be my daughter first) and it breaks my heart thinking of the pain I'm causing her.
All I do know is that I would always want her to come to me as her mother to seek comfort, even if it's me and my cancer that's causing the hurt.
I'd rather us cry together than her feel alone, and I'd always find the strength to comfort her, as being her mum gives me strength (something you may not understand if you're not a mum yourself). So please reach out and seek the arms of your mum about your pain and fear about losing your best friend.
My diagnosis has brought me and my daughter even closer and we seek each other out for comfort and support more and more.
It is very challenging as you worry you are worrying the other etc but all we've found is the best thing to do for us, is to be as open and honest as possible and we both go to counselling as well.
As a mum to my best friend, I wanted to just give you the biggest virtual hug. I can't begin to imagine your or my daughters pain and heartache. We're blessed to have such strong loving relationships but it comes at such a cost. Hold on tight to each other, take everything a step at a time, and be super kind to yourself. It's so very hard, so very unfair, but it'll be okay
