I am hoping someone could give me some advice or any information. December 2016 I was diagnosed with stage 4 ovarian cancer which has spread throughout my lymphatic system. In fact that was how this was discovered. My rymathologist requested an urgent ct when I showed him a small swollen lymph node on my left collar bone (my gp said it was just one of those things). I was then immediately sent for a biopsy and the results stage 4 OC. The oncologist has given me 12 months give or take either side of that figure. As my blood plates are dangerously low I was advised that chemo would put me at high risk of stroke or brain haemorrhage. The chemo would not get rid of the cancer and it would not stop it. I decided against chemo. I am on oramorph for the pain but that is it. I have been offered radiotherapy to help with the pain and advised the more you have it the less effective it becomes. So I have decided to leave it until later. I am 53. Has anyone been in this position or know of anyone with this stage of cancer? Is there anything I could look into to help or anything treatment I could ask for?
I would really appreciate any communication.
Fernie
Hi,
I don't know exactly but I will ask her,.
As said she had ovarian same time as I had breast, She had 5 hour operation, it had started to spread to her lung, the breathlessness she started getting sent her to Drs,and her bowel, but lungs cleared and no lasting bowel damage But now 3 years on shes fine and enjoying life shes been to S Africa and on couple hols in Europe since. her kind of cancer doesent react to chemo so she didn't have that. She has to have 3 monthly check ups to check the nos,but so far all fine, and no increases,. I wanted you to know that Stage 4 isn't as bad as some make out,and theres lots of hope My friend got on really well and feels very fortunate, I will let you know when I find out what hormone treatment. Hi june, thanx for the quick respond. Yes please do keep me update as am also looking for a treatment for my mother. Hearing your friend's story raise lots of hope. My email is fateemahossenmohamed@gmail.com. please keep me update if any. Thank you very much.Â
Hi
I spoke to my friend tonight she is on Letrozol, She is really well,ok odd ache and pain when gets up etc, but think all of us on hormonal tablets get those, I do on tamoxifen , My friend initially wasn't given great news when she heard stage 4 and her poor husband found it very hard to deal with. But 3 years later shes fine and enjoying life. I do hope you can get treatment for your mum. Many people who ve had Stage 4 seem to be ok after treatment, Ok my friend has to go every three months for check ups but her numbers seem to be controlled by the drug, Her oncologist told she has a few patients with same as her and all going strong still. If you not happy get a second opinion, June

Hi june thnx for the info. No its very encouraging for me as i was devastated on hearing the news too. She had a 3 hour surgery removing the ovaries and omentum. She got discharged yesterday but she complains of stomach bloating which causing discomfort. She has lot of gas also.
Hi charlie i hope your wife is fine. My mother is suffering from stage 4 ovarian cancer. She underwent surgery of her ovaries and omentum. I hope your wife is now ok with chemo.
Dear Fernie
I am so sorry to hear about your diagnosis. I was diagnosed with stage 4b ovarian cancer after surgery in July this year. My surgery was thankfully successful and I was 'debulked with no residual disease'. My diagnosis was stage 4 as I had an affected lymph node in my groin - which is what alerted me to something being wrong - as I and no other symptoms - so thank god for my lymph node. I completed 6 rounds of carboplatin on 4 December - not an easy process but it's done. I developed really low platelets (only 45) which resulted in one of my treatments being deferred for a week. i researched what I could do to help my platelets and saw that taking wheatgrass would help. I immediately started taking organic wheatgrass powder (10g mixed with a little water) and within 9 days my platelets had totally recovered and were 377 - much to the astonishment of my oncologist and the oncology nurses! Furthermore, the rest of my bloods and my sick liver (as a result of the carboplatin) had totally recovered. I continued to take wheatgrass throughout my treatment from then on and completed my last treatment with the oncologist saying that she had expected the last treatment to again be deferred due to lowered platelets - they were totally normal. Wheatgrass did more for my bloods in less time that a blood transfusion did.
I take the wheatgrass first thing in the morning on an empty stomach followed by a mug of hot lemon water. I am continuing to take it. The wheatgrass tastes vile but once you've downed it followed by a glass of water, there's no lasting aftertaste. It may be worth giving the wheatgrass a go, to see what effect it has on your platelets which may put you in a better place to tolerate chemotherapy?
I would not accept that there is no hope in terms of treatment. I have started taking Iscador - look to up - it may be an alternative for you?
Wishing you well and all the best.
Cathy
Hi Cathy,
The wheat grass powder is 2 % as powerful as real wheatgrass. I am growing in my home for my wife and it is dead easy. Take a tray and fill with seedling garden soil. Then spread wheat seeds and wet it daily. First 3 days cover with wet cloth and then once sprout then remove the cloth. You can start cutting grass from 7th day for nearly 3 weeks. Add a fist full grass to your green juices daily in the morning. Many videos available on how to grow wheat grass.Â
The good thing of real grass is it has live enzymes which were lost in drying process.
CheersÂ

Hello, If you don't mind , If I could ask the email add of Dr. Sleveen? My mother also is diagnosed with ovarian cancer.
Hi,
I just wanted to open up this thread again to see if anyone out there is also in a similar position. I have just been diagnosed with a recurrence of Ovarian cancer 22 years after I was first diagnosed. I am 43. There is no staging for recurrence. I have already had a full hysterectomy years ago. I have a mucinous tumour in my rectus muscle (abdomen) and it is also spread throughout my lymphatic system. I begin paclitaxel/carboplatin and Avastin treatment next week.
I am in immense pain, which I am told is caused by the swollen lymph nodes. I’m on 40mg of morphine twice daily as well as oramorph, but I still have quite extreme pain throughout the day and night in my left hip. Nothing seems to touch it. I use heat packs, a wedge cushion under my hips or knees, and try to keep moving even though it’s painful to walk and I am exhausted.
I wondered if anyone had any suggestions as to what other pain relief or treatments I could ask for? I have been told the chemo could help with the pain right away if I am lucky and the cancer responds to treatment. Does anyone have any experience of this?
Thanks
Hi ,
When i had breast cancer 7 yrs ago my oldest friend had ovarian at same time stage 4 had serious op it had spread to bowel lungs to,But she recovered was told chemo didnt work on her kind of cancer but cancer might return.it did 2 yrs ago.Drug she was on stopped working.she got in touch with Royal Marsden who put her on a newish drug the name escapes me, you can get it on NHS but you have to have chemo first pointless in her case. The tumours which were also in her nodes have shrunk and she feels ok bit tired odd side effects but nothing too dramatic. She looks well and is enjoying life.
Id suggest contacting Marsden.my friend dìd at at my suggestion.
