Heyy guys,

Does anyone else feel quite dizzy/lightheaded and like the world isn't real after Chemo??
I had Chemo (Carboplatin) on Wednesday and now 4 days later I feel EXTREMELY tired and the whole of my body just feels BEYOND achey and I feel quite dizzy/lightheaded and kinda weird like nothing feels real atm......
Is this normal??
I had Chemo last year but I was already really ill anyway so I couldn't really tell the difference between side effects and the actual Cancer so I still have absolutely no idea about whats normal and what's not......
I also have a bit of pain/tightness feeling in the area that's below my chest and above my stomach which I think could be the stomach lining or something??
I have Stage 4 Ovarian Cancer which has spread to other parts with the stomach lining being one of the main areas so maybe the Chemo is just doing it's job and is moving stuff around which is making me feel weird??
Idk......
How long do the side effects usually last for??
I just wanna go back to normal already WearyBroken heart

  • Hi

I had chemo for endometrial cancer in 2022. I had carboplatin but also paclitaxel. It is therefore hard to know what only the carboplatin caused in terms of effects.

However what you are describing with the weakness/dizziness/fatigue is exactly how I felt. Achy and sort of spaced out. I think the steroids also had an impact.

With the pain and tightness below your chest I would suggest giving your 24 hour cancer helpline a call as it is not something I experienced or have heard of.

At 4 days I probably felt my worst as that is when the high dose of steroids dropped off. For subsequent cycles I was put on a tapering dose and that helped.

My chemo cycle was 21 days and I felt rough for the first week, began to pick up during the second week and by the third week I was able to get out and about and felt like doing more. I did find that with each cycle the side effects followed a similar pattern but the fatigue did build up with each cycle.

You are welcome to give the Support Line a call and talk to one of the nurses about the side effects if it would help but I do recommend giving your team a call to update them about how you are feeling.

I hope you start to feel a lot better soon.

  • I'm stage 4b ovarian as well and had peritoneal lining, omentun and uterus, ovarian fallopian tubes removed in February of thids year. Had 5 chemo sesiion beforehand and one a few weeks after surgery (carboplatin and pac, like Jane 2511).

I had all of the symptoms you described - definitely! They do take time to finally go and difficult to say how long as we all seem to react to drugs in different ways. I am on Neraparib tablets now - still feel strange on and off. I seemed to change a gear and get used to it over time....
