Hi everyone, I’m new to this forum.
I'm 36 and have recently been going under tests for Ovarian Cancer after an unrelated trip to my GP when she noticed I had a firm and distended stomach. She referred me for an ultrasound and CT scan following elevated cA-125 levels (58) and they found a 27cm complex cyst which extended from my ovary into my abdomen. I was referred to MDT yesterday and have been told they’re reviewing my case on Monday and I should receive a call Monday afternoon with next steps.
I’ve been told open surgery is likely and a frozen section but I wondered if other people have been through something similar and what happened after MDT and how quickly you got your surgery date?
Thank you
My symptoms are different in that I had a total hysterectomy 10 years ago for a tumour on the ovary and one in the uterus both grade 1. I had no further treatment after the op just follow ups for 5 years. Recently I have had my gallbladder removed and traces of a gynaelogical cancer have been found. Your message resonated with me so much though as I am meeting with the consultant on Monday for a full update on my scan and to arrange a treatment plan - we seem to be on the same time scale and at the moment Mondayseems a long way off to me. Best wishes
Hi Brookie,
I’m really sorry to hear that especially as you’ve been through it before, I’m sure it doesn’t make it any easier.
The MDT is Monday then the nurse will ring me on the afternoon. She did mention usually after this I might be referred for an appointment to meet with the consultant quite quickly so I hope that does happen.
My plan this weekend is just to keep myself as distracted or occupied as possible. Although I’m almost out of tv shows to binge watch as have been using tv as a coping mechanism.
I hope your weekend passes quickly!
Hello - I am sorry that you are going through this. Its such a worrying time isn't it? I hope you are doing ok and managing to stay distracted as the waiting is quite grim. You asked about what others experiences were like. My time frames were from MDT - I waited a week for the follow up appointment and outcome from that. I met with my surgeon and she explained the size of the tumour and what they had to do. She also gave me a provisional staging (1) but could not be sure until the tumour was out and had been biopsied etc. I then waited 5 weeks for my surgery, which was a radical hysterectomy. I always felt comforted by the thought of the MDT because you have quite a few specialists all looking at your scans and deciding the best course of action. I then waited about another 6 weeks I think, for 6 rounds of chemo as my tumour was cancerous. If you want to ask me anything - then please just ask away. The important thing is, they cannot know what it is until it is out and looked at properly. So try not to worry too much (famous last words........). Go safely.
Thanks Pickles for sharing your story. It gives me a much better idea of what to expect. I hope you are doing better now?
I think that’s what’s worrying me the most finding out what stage they think it is at. My CT scan showed a nodule in the abdomen wall but all my lymph nodes looked normal and no free fluid but they’ve told me it’s a possible sign of spreading. I’m also really worried if I need chemotherapy.
Im trying to remain as positive as I can and they’ve told me they won’t know for sure until it’s out and been fully tested.
It just doesn’t really feel real at the moment and my emotions are all over.
